Distracted by a murder mystery all weekend

It's been a while since I've found a book so distracting that I'm thinking about it all the time and read it every spare minute. The Word is Murder by Antony Horowitz.
Really surprised actually because although I appreciated Magpie Murders i didn't immediately look for more of his books. I only picked this one off Libby as I was waiting for a hold to become free (a Brother Athelstan).
Will I be disappointed with the next Horowitz in this series? Which mysteries gripped you?

I read most of The Chalk Man by C J Tudor yesterday and will be finishing it today

So well written, can't believe it's a debut, and reviews say there is a great twist at the end.... 👀

I've enjoyed quite a few Horowitz books, his Hawthorne character isn't my favourite but I still read all in that series and enjoyed them well enough.
I've read all the Magpie/Moonflower etc ones too and thought they were good, I favour them over Hawthorne ones.
My bar is pretty low with mysteries though - I will stay up all night to find out whodunit, regardless of enjoyment really. They all grip me at the time and I HAVE to know.
He wrote a Sherlock Holmes type one too, The Silk Road? I liked that but haven't kept up with the series.

I like Horowitz. I stayed up reading Blue Lightening by Ann Cleeves, part of her fabulous Shetland series.

I really like the Hawthorne and Horowitz series. Also the Magpie & Moonflower Murders by the same author

The TV version of Magpie Murders on Britbox is great too. Leslie Manville is so cool.

@JaneFondue I’ve watched Shetland on TV, but never read the books. I’m going to download Blue Lightening, have you read any others of that series that you would recommend?

JaneFondue · 20/03/2023 12:21

I'm really recommend reading the Shetland series in order as the characters continue their stories from book to book. Not really stand alone. The first is Raven Black, I think, which is very good. I get them from my library.

MissyB1 · 20/03/2023 14:04

@JaneFondue ah ok will do that.

paranoidmumdroid1 · 20/03/2023 18:06

Thanks everyone. Will also look at the Shetlans series.
The C J Tudor book may be a bit chilling for my tastes. I'm a bit more Marple / Poirot than that usually!
