Hi, I’ve got conjunctivitis at the moment and can’t read. I’ve signed up for the Audible free trial, but I’m having trouble finding any ‘included’ books to listen to.

Is there a way of searching that shows more ‘included’ books? Can anybody recommend something? I mostly read literary fiction, children’s classics, crime (not domestic thrillers) and non-fiction eg history, popular science etc.

Thanks.

the first book I listened to on audible was called ‘Heft’ can’t remember who wrote it but I absolutely loved it.
I prefer reading to listening and have let my audible subscription lapse but highly recommend heft.

Type 'included' into the search bar. Some that came up that might fit the brief: Room with a View, A History of Britain, Wind in the Willows, The Secret Garden, Anna Karenina...
If you do it on a computer you can select genres too.

Most podcasts are free too I believe.

Thanks both of you. I never thought of searching just by ‘included’, duh.

One of my favourites recently has been Left on Tenth by Delia Ephron. Its autobiographical about one particular stage of her life. Herself and her sister Nora Ephron wrote When Harry met Sally..Sleepless in Seattle among others.

Lovelybook and so nicely read.

Not audible, but BBC sounds has lots of audiobooks. There are classics like Wuthering Heights, Wind in the Willows and modern books like Queenie and My Sister, The Serial Killer.

In the included library I recommend The Jane Austen Collection, Alan Partridge From The Oasthouse and The Moonstone. Audible Original podcasts are good too - I'm listening to Deepest Dive about the disappearance of flight MH370 at the moment, I also enjoyed Derren Brown's series about the mind.

Apart from the classics and the audible originals podcasts, the books that are included free are usually poor - same with The Daily Deal, which used to feature best sellers but is now mainly dross.

You can find some good audiobooks )and old radio dramas) free on YouTube.

My local library app also has an absolutely ton of (recent, very good) audiobooks available to borrow for free.

Hi OP - if you are using the app, click “discover” along the bottom of the page, then “plus catalogue” from the top of the next page, and it takes you to a whole page of “plus” suggestions. “Plus catalogue” is the stuff that’s included. Have attached a pic of this.

Or if you’re on the website (phone or probably computer) click on the top left three little bars to make the menu appear, scroll down to “plus catalogue” and then you can browse by genre etc or keep going down and find the “all in the plus catalogue” option and look through that.
There’s loads. I recommend lots of the classic ones - Anthony Trollope, Jane Austen, Edith Wharton - and also the French and Saunders podcast if you like them.

The LJ Ross crime series is good on Audible (not sure I'd read them, on paper). Narrated by Richard Armitage, who is excellent and great for relaxed listening if you are feeling a bit rubbish.

I like listening to crime fiction, but struggle to read it. It's a genre that works really well for audio books though. In fact, I have certain genres i read and certain ones I listen to, so experjment and return them if you aren't keen

Thanks everyone for your help and suggestions. I have been listening to Treasure Island, and enjoying all the different pirate voices (not to mention the parrot).

If you use the website and not the app you can see all included books much easier. Or you can look at classics or whatever category.
