I am reading an Anthony Horowitz at the mo. I don't have anything lined up to read next. Recently I have loved:
Lessons in Chemistry
The Book Thief
A Thousand Splendid Suns
Longbourne
The Last Anniversary (Leanne Moriarty)
The Twyford Code
The Octopus Man

What else might I like?

Try Clare Chambers. I've read The Editor's Wife and SmallPleasures and enjoyed them both.

P. G. Wodehouse is as lighthearted as they come. In fact, he is pure joy. As for well-written, his prose is as good as it gets. When he died, some critics compared him to Shakespeare, and I'm not surprised. Frankly, he makes almost every other writer seem dull and plodding and clumsy. Each sentence is polished to perfection.

I'd recommend listening to Stephen Fry read him. Fry also reads the Sherlock Holmes novels. Both are wonderful.

Clive James autobiography really made me laugh, and he writes well.

The Robber Bride and Cat’s Eye are both very good and not sci-fi-y - about female (women and girls’) ‘friendships’.

GingerPigz · 19/02/2023 19:36

Julieta Henderson - The Funny Thing About Norman Foreman... a delightful well written read. Beat book I've read in a while.

LuzzBightyearzz · 19/02/2023 19:36
