Really enjoyed all of them, until the next one arrives I need something else to read.

Any recommendations similar to Richard Osman please?

Thank you 😊

Tuesday Club Murders by Agatha Christie? I believe it's what inspired The Thursday Murder Club books. Short stories and it's the first encounter with Miss Marple.

A similar feel to TMC is The Windsor Knot by S. J. Bennet and Murder and Croissants by Ian Moore.

Marlow Murder club - rip off but enjoyable!

Hidegard · 16/02/2023 11:08

I read The Appeal by Janice Hallett shortly after finishing TMC and enjoyed it immensely

I enjoyed Exit by Belinda Bauer recently and it reminded me of Richard Osman's writing in its tone and its likeable elderly main character.

Rubbernecker by the same author is also excellent but fairly grisly in its description of the dissection of bodies left to medical science. Great plot though if you have a strong stomach and an0ther interesting hero in Patrick, who has autism.

Anything Agatha Christie! Particularly like "A murder is announced." It's amazing.

BentleyRhythmAce · 16/02/2023 12:49

Rubbernecker is brilliant. OP have you tried Miss Marple?

Cryingbutstilltrying · 16/02/2023 15:14

If you have Prime and use a kindle or kindle app, there’s a series which begins with A Murder of Crows (can’t remember the author right now) and the first couple are free. I enjoyed that, it was quite similar in style.
Also saw some others which had covers very similar to Osman, often that’s a good sign that they’re aiming for the style and worth a go if you aren’t paying!

In Stranger's Houses, A Clean Canvas and A Messy Affair by Elizabeth Mundy .Cosy mysteries written with a light touch.

Was it the crime or the way the characters were portrayed that you liked?

Exit is very good. I couldn’t put it down.
There was another couple recommended that I enjoyed too but can’t remember the titles at the moment.

I am slowly working my way through the Feathering series at the moment and have another couple recommended on here on order from the library. I can’t wait for the new Thursday Murder book to come out, although I think he’s said that will then be it for a while!

Magpie Murders and the sequel, Moonflower Murders by Anthony Horowitz

Both really, but especially the characters and the plot twists. I found them all quite gentle and lovely reading.

Bryant and May series by Christopher Fowler - 2 elderly detectives investigating for the Peculiar Crimes Unit in London, dark humour, beautifully written, slightly Cree with plenty of twists.

RightOnTheEdge · 19/02/2023 16:48

The Marlow Murder Club by Robert Thorogood is similar and The Death in Paradise books by the same author.
Magpie Murders by Anthony Horowitz is good too.

WildFlowerBees · 19/02/2023 17:00

I'm part way through The Marlow Murder, not loving it I find Judith very irritating.

I'll try all the suggestions though.

I found the Marlow murder club to be a poor man’s Thursday Murder Club tbh.
