I am thinking of getting a kindle but I don't know if it's nice to read on and which kindle to go for?

It's my birthday in a couple of weeks and I am planning to treat myself to this but is it worth it and if yes, which model shall I get? Do you love your kindle? Also, how long does the battery typically last?

I am a kindle convert.

Always thought I would like them, because generally I struggle to take things in if reading from a screen for a long period of time.

My partner got me the paper white for my birthday almost 2 years ago and it is an absolute game changer.

It doesn't feel like reading from a screen (think this is down to how the screen is lit)

It's easy to take with me (hairdressers, train journeys, holidays) and I find reading for long periods more comfortable as you can lie/sit in any position you want and just hold it in one hand.

It's also easy to read in bright sunlight, unlike phone and tablet screens.

it also has the advantage that I can read with the bedside lamp on!

Don't you mean off? I don't need a light on to read my Paperwhite. It means that DH can get to sleep.

I always thought I’d be a ‘book first’ sort of person but I love my kindle. It’s ready to read, you can adjust font sizes, screen brightness etc, and like others have said, it means I can read in bed without having to turn the light on, Also, being slimline, it’s easy to slip in a bag.

Another advantage is that there’s always book deals, and i usually only buy books for 99p. The only ones I buy costing more than this are ones I need for book club.

It's also easier to read while lying on your side which appreciated when I was too ill to sit up! I have the basic Kindle which is fine but am thinking of upgrading to the Paperwhite - is it worth it?

It's worth it if you read at night and don't want to put a lamp on. I love mine.

I would advise a Kindle rather than a tablet as reading on a shiny screen is nowhere near as comfortable as e-ink and the Paperwhite for being able to read in the dark without having to put the light on.
My battery lasts for weeks.
It's worth looking at eBay for Kindles and cases as people sell them very cheaply when they want to upgrade.

There's a Paperwhite on eBay right now for £43 that also includes the case.

Adore my kindle. It is one of the very early ones and annoyingly although it's in good nick I can no longer log on to the internet on it and download new books as it's an old model. I can send a book to it from amazon though. I don't want to upgrade as I am very attached to it. Love being able to read books which are out of print. Am working my way through all of Mrs Henry Wood at the moment and spent a happy year reading every school story from about 1900 to 1920s I could find. Love that I can make the print HUGE. Love the softness of the typeface and greyish muted background. Love that as a left hander I can turn pages as if I were reading the book from back to front. God I sound old! I'm not really. Kindles are the best!
