The one you pick up when you're exhausted because it doesn't matter where you start or stop as you know it so well. The one you reach for when you're ill and can't concentrate on anything.

A Country Child by Alison Uttley - my Christmas choice

John O Farrell - The Best A Man Can Get.
Stephen King - Pet Semetry mostly. In the bath.

Sorry - “This is your life” by John O Farrell . Not so much a fan of Tony Parsons but they are on the shelf together.

Another one for Armistead Maupin's Tales of the City series.
Love, love, love.

Little women . It's my daughters favourite as well, and last year we went to concord to visit Louisa Maut Alcotts house
It was a perfect day

Which reminds me of E M Delafield's Provincial Lady novels because in the third one, A Provincial lady in America the protagonist insists (to her host's surprise) on going to just that house with pretty much just that reaction! - maybe 90 years before your trip.

Jane Austen novels particularly Persuasion. I try not to read it too often as I don't want it to become overly familiar. I still haven't visited Lyme Regis as I worry it won't live up to the book. I don't think I have read Mansfield Park since A-level which really put me off. Might try it again, but Fanny Price was very underwhelming.

@tobee yes to all of those! Certain Barbara Pym novels I can read again and again.

Rebecca for me too!
Also whichever Harry Potter book has the big Christmas feast in it - when I’m tired and want to be in bed I have that but specifically open on my kindle - makes me feel so warm and toasty and happy!

Also going to throw in The Dark Tower series. I’ve read the whole lot three times through and they’re just incredible.
