Do you jump straight into another book or wait a bit??

Just that really.

I finished Becoming by Michelle Obama at around 1pm and I've picked up another book to start reading and I can't get into it.

I was thinking if I should take a break or keep searching my bookshelf for a different book (I have over 530 so I have a lot of choice lol)

Just got me wondering if other readers jump straight into another book or wait a few days lol

I wait until the next day. I think of it as a superstition of mine.

FineThings · 25/01/2023 16:41

I'm usually reading two or three books at once, so it's kind of jumping straight in but also overlapping. But yes, once I have finished a book I either start paying more attention to one of the others I am reading or start another one straight away.

NetballHoop · 25/01/2023 16:48

I try to pace myself to finish a book just before I go to sleep as I like to ruminate on it as I doze off.
If I can't do that then I'll start a new one straight away.

pleasejustgotosleep · 25/01/2023 17:12

@FineThings I always admire people who can read more than one book at once. I can't see how I'd manage that 🤣🤣

I jump straight into another book, but sometimes alternate between fiction and crime fiction. However I can also be reading up to three books at once too.

TheChosenTwo · 25/01/2023 17:32

I’m a one book at a time reader who jumps straight into the next one usually.

JamSandle · 25/01/2023 17:40

I tend to find my next book straight away.

ItsRainingCatsAndDogsAgain · 25/01/2023 18:09

I usually have to wait a day or two after a good book.

Ragwort · 25/01/2023 18:24

I have a few on the go at any one time .. I have been wading through one book for at least a couple of years Grin.

Aphrathestorm · 25/01/2023 18:25

I always have books overlapping.

Natsku · 25/01/2023 18:26

I start a new one straight after unless I finish fairly late at night. No way would I wait a few days to start a new book, how would I pass the time on the loo??

Fairislefandango · 25/01/2023 18:32

I start reading a new book straight away. I sometimes have the books on the go if I'm reading one in another language as well as one in English (I'm a languages teacher so I can read in several).

OldSchoolCasualty · 25/01/2023 18:41

I usually have one fiction and one non fiction on the go, and then go straight into another after, god bless kindle unlimited!

Pashazade · 25/01/2023 18:58

I've usually got about 4 or 5 different books on the go at the same time so never really been a thing for me!

pleasejustgotosleep · 25/01/2023 19:18

4 or 5! @Pashazade
Wow that's impressive. I feel very rubbish now only being able to handle one at a time lol

Pashazade · 25/01/2023 19:21

Lol, I'm not sure it's a good habit, but one on the Kindle, one in the bathroom, one in a handbag, one by the sofa......if it's a good one then it gets carried from room to room until it's finished!

Faircastle · 25/01/2023 19:42

The gap between books is the minute or two that it takes me to choose which book to start next. The idea of not having a book on the go actually makes me feel a bit uncomfortable. If I left it for two or three days, what would I read during that time?

MillicentTrilbyHiggins · 25/01/2023 19:45

It depends what I've just finished reading and what time I finish it.

I try not to read 2 books of the same genre straight after each other.

I try to stick to one book at a time although I've currently got 3 on the go!

Noonesperfect · 25/01/2023 19:50

When I've finished one, I like to try and wait till the next day to start a new one. Don't always manage this and not really sure why I even try to. 🤔

Noonesperfect · 25/01/2023 19:53

I only tend to have one on the go at a time, which is weird in a way because I manage to follow lots of different drama shows on the tv all at the same time, well lot literally watching several tellies at one Grin

I feel exactly the same. I've just finished a book. I'm going to the library in the morning to get the next in the series, but I'll start another book tonight as an 'in between' book. I can't bear the thought of having nothing to read tonight.

Ilovelurchers · 25/01/2023 20:05

I jump straight in even if I am really tired as for some reason I hate going to sleep without having a book on the go!

My husband is the opposite and to some extent deliberately times it so that he finishes a book just before going to sleep.

So of my sample of two, both approaches are equally popular!

MajesticWhine · 25/01/2023 20:13

When I finish a book I tend to sulk for a while and find it hard to start the next one Grin

username98765 · 25/01/2023 20:20

I have to wait! I get a bit obsessed when reading and hate finishing a good book as it's all I think about haha!
