Hi there, I'm an historical friction nut and I have a real fascination with the Crimean War and specifically Florence Nightingale's role in it and I was wondering if anyone could recommend any fiction or non-fiction books on it.

Thanks

the only Crimea set novel I think I've read is Flashman At The Charge.

Another vote for The Rose of Sebastopol. I didn''t know much about that conflict until I read it. I'd like to read more on the subject.

Master Georgie by Beryl Bainbridge is about a surgeon who volunteers in the Crimean war. Shortlisted for the Booker.

Into the Valley of Death by AL Berridge. Was meant to be a series but sadly health issues stoped her writing but it’s terrific as are her two books about 17th C France.

Was also going to say Master Georgie and Rose of Sabastapol.

The Valley of Death by Garry Douglas Kilworth. It's the first of a short series, and is kind of like Sharpe, if you like those you may like these.
Some good characters and some great descriptions of how the soldiers lived (so where Sharpe is a common soldier given a commission, Fancy Jack Crossman is the second son of an Earl - i think - who enlists in the ranks. He's a sergeant in this one)

The Liars Daughter by Laurie Graham
