Mums : How do you find time to read?

That's the question :) I try and find time when the kids have gone to bed. When do you read? How do you fit it in? I love books and I'm on my second read in two weeks.

I the evening, although I should read more but also watch too much TV and spend too much time on my phone. I WFH so in my breaks, try and sneak away from the kids at the weekend sometimes. On mat leave with my first i deliberately arrived too early for baby groups and read in the car while the baby slept!

I read around my children all the time too. I think it helps them to see adults reading. They know that books and tea are what keeps their mum going, so when they draw me I’m usually holding one or both things 🙂. I used to only be able to read in perfect silence, now I can filter pretty much anything out when reading around them. My youngest is 3.5 and it’s felt like a milestone with each of them when I start to be able to read more around them while they’re playing. And my book lives in the kitchen during the day so I can sneak some in while making dinner etc.

Plus the charge lasts sooooo long! Originally I was out off by the idea of my ‘book’ running out of charge halfway through a journey and leaving me frustrated but DH got me one for a birthday gift and it’s the opposite. Actually if I finish my book while out I’ve always got another few hundred ready on my kindle 😂 if I go away on holiday with my kindle I basically need to charge it before I leave and maybe once during the holiday.

I listen to Audiobooks in the car (I do an hour's commute each way 2 days a week). I read in bed, and I also read when the kids are playing, often infront of the fire while they are playing on the floor with lego at my feet. I love that time! It's so peaceful.
