Not what we're reading but what we're marking the pages with.

My current bookmark in the novel I'm reading is the picture from a pretty greetings card. In a non-fiction book I'm reading slowly I'm using an unwanted Nectar Points voucher.

What about you?

A couple of books I'm reading have those novelty photo strips from a friend's wedding, the ones where people wear silly glasses/hold blow up guitars etc

123ZYX · 31/12/2022 19:42

I'm definitely a "whatever is close and flat" bookmark user - receipts, train tickets, etc. I'm using business cards from my previous job for a few books at the moment.

I collect bookmarks as holiday souvenirs. I’ve probably got around 50. Cheap and easy to carry and store. I love choosing a different one for the current read.
At the moment Im using a picture of the Santa Justa Elevator in Lisbon.

mamaduckbone · 20/01/2023 20:21

I'm currently using a bit of cardboard ripped from a box of tablets.
I do have a couple of nice bookmarks but can seldom find them so it's usually a post-it, a hair bobble, a receipt - whatever is close to hand.

I’m a corner-folder. There, I said it.

If I receive a book for Christmas, and I did, I fold a not-too-large piece of pretty Christmas wrapping paper to make a bookmark.

I cross-stitched one or two but I find them too bulky.

A piece of ribbon makes a nice book mark - any old piece from the sewing drawer.

Me too, apart from on my kindle.... It was a real challenge not to do it when I borrowed a book from a friend last week.

I keep the bookmarks you get free from different shops, currently using an English Heritage one. My children make me bookmarks as well.

MissyB1 · 22/01/2023 13:25

I’m using a chalet school one, someone on the chalet school facebook group I’m in made them.

Possibly controversial but I don't use one - I just remember where I am in the book and turn the pages till I get there.

Snozzlemaid · 22/01/2023 19:03

I've got quite a collection from places visited but currently using a cute bookmark one of my DCs got me that says I'm the best Mummy ever.
They are now 25 and 21 so I've had it for quite some time.

Violinist64 · 22/01/2023 19:11

I bought loads of bookmarks when The Works had reduced them to 10p each. I have given some away with birthday cards but use them as and when I lose one. My daughter is another page rememberer. For those of you who use dog ears to mark your page - shame on you!

Terpsichore · 22/01/2023 19:14

I’ll use anything but I usually have old train-tickets knocking around so they generally get pressed into service as bookmarks. I once bought a book from a charity shop that had a lovely, huge dried leaf - from some exotic tree, obviously from someone's holiday - as a bookmark.

eddiemairswife · 22/01/2023 19:18

My granddaughter bought me a Leeds University one which is currently in use, but I have a cross stitch one I made for my Grandma in Kindergarten in 1943.

Clawdy · 23/01/2023 08:36

I love a nice bookmark, and like someone said earlier, it's fun choosing a different one for each new book.

FuzzyCaoraDhubh · 23/01/2023 09:54

I'm currently using a lovely card I got from my brother on my birthday last year.

RomanMum · 23/01/2023 10:45

Don't know how but I've got a freebie from an independent bookshop that I've never visited.

3luckystars · 07/07/2023 10:59

I’m on the hunt for a nice bookmark. The paper type, not metal or anything too fancy.

elkiedee · 07/07/2023 11:16

I collect bookmarks. I have some favourites but unfortunately I seem to lose a lot of my favourite bookmarks and the bookshop which sold a series of them doesn't seem to be offering them any more. They are of a number of writers and political activist-writers - I still have Mary Wollstonecraft, Frida Kahlo, Sylvia Pankhurst, Eleanor Marx etc but have lost a lot of the others including Claudia Jones, Rosa Luxemburg and a spare Frida Kahlo. I may have dropped them on a bus or left them in books I was returning to the library, or they may be buried somewhere among the piles of junk in my house.

Bbq1 · 07/07/2023 11:19

I coll bookmarks and have probably 200 in a shoe box. I change them up occasionally. I am currently using a jewelled one of a fox that I received as a present.
