I bought her loads of Heyer who she loves but now wondering what else I could buy. Pride and Prejudice is her favourite book. She loves all of the Austen novels. Any ideas? TIA

Stella Riley writes excellent historical novels, though there are some slightly steamy bits

Clare Darcy is in that genre. Julia Quinn also writes about the regency period but in modern language style and with some graphic sex scenes so may not be appreciated!

@PragmaticWench forgot to mention that she actually doesn't mind Bridgerton

Loretta Chase is very witty and well researched. I can recommend The Carsington Brothers. Some rude bits but nothing an average grandma couldn't handle!

Not regency but Elizabeth Cadell books are sweet and fun (Just skip the one with Lily in the title, Remember the Lilies or something like that, it was dark). Also the writer of Lady Audley's Secret, sorry can't remember her name at present. I love GH and it is definitely hard to find books to compare!

Miss Pettigrew Lives for a Day from Persephone Books is my go-to gift book for "lovely" reads.

Would also suggest the EF Benson Mapp & Lucia to match the humour element of Jane Austen. Barbara Pym is fab too - more wry and melancholic humour than laugh out loud but beautifully written.

For a modern suggestion - how about the Olive Kitteridge books by Elizabeth Smart

Should say, Miss Wonderful is the first one.

I second Mapp &Lucia. Also Dorothy L Sayers - Harriet and Wimsey have a slow burn, and there is a similar humour

Thanks all. Have picked up Mapp and Lucia for a start

Eloisa James is worth looking into too.

The Bridgerton books are not as sexual as the adaptation is. Julia quinn writes good books and many off springs from Bridgerton series

A new one: A Lady’s Guide to Fortune Hunting by Sophie Irwin. Great fun.

The Other Bennet Sister by Janice Hadlow is Mary Bennet’s imagined story (Pride and Prejudice spin off). It’s a fun read for P&P fans. I was ill for a couple of days recently and found this both comforting and fun.

Jude MMorgan has written several very witty Regency novels (which as a long time Georgette Heyer admirer) I really enjoyed. There is a good description of 'Indiscretion' here: austenprose.com/2013/02/06/indiscretion-a-novel-by-jude-morgan-a-review/ and of 'An Accomplished Woman' here.

Apologies for misplaced opening bracket!
