Can you recommend some angst free books for 15/ 16 year olds?

He likes fantasy, but reads anything. Not bothered whether it’s targeted at boys or girls. Really wants some good reads. Not really interested in teen stuff/ angst/ romance.

How about the Girl Who Saved the King of Sweden. Although it's a couple of years since I read it so you might want to read some reviews first Wink

My DS1 recommends good omens, anything by Terry pratchett, Neil gaiman, Garth nix. He also really enjoyed dash and lily’s book of dares(maybe too teenish) and has memorised Simon Mason’s garvie smith books (girl got shot etc) - they’re ya but good plots etc. he also recommends the silmarillion and LoTR - I think they’re shite but he loves to escape into an alternative reality - ymmv.

DS2 suggests any of the Iain m banks or iain banks books. The ones with m are sci fi. He really liked Polly Ho (the boy in the tower), anything by sarah Hardinge, and is going through a Margaret Atwood phase. Philip k dick also a favourite (but quite dark in my opinion). I don’t think I’d say Atwood was angst free! He also loved all the old John Wyndham books (bad stuff happens but they feel quite old fashioned and far off to kids now).

Maybe something suitable in there?

Thank you - I hadn't thought of some of these! I'll pass the suggestions on.

Is angst the same as peril?

BringOnAutumn · 10/11/2022 19:13

I think peril is fine. He's a bit fed up with school teen/ coming of age/ angst books that he's had to read lately.
