My ds13 has always read but is really struggling to find something to get into.
The last thing he read and enjoyed was 'ready player one' (but couldn't get into the sequel).
He loved the Hunger Games and Divergent series, but hasn't got on with the Cherub series which ds1 loved.
Any ideas for something new that might grip him?

Ds1 liked the first three Maze Runner books.

Ah yes...I'd forgotten about them. I think ds1 read them from the library so don't have them on the bookshelf.

My almost 13 year old has recently enjoyed Day of the Triffids. He also loves Terry Pratchet (Truckers, Diggers etc.).

What about the Gone series or the Edge Chronicles? Tyger by SF Said (wrote Varjak Paw) is new and brilliant and our students at school really enjoy Stone Cold and Kill All Enemies which are more gritty and realistic. Boy, Everywhere is great too. High school librarian here so lots of suggestions!

Definitely something sci-fi/fantasy to stimulate his imagination. Ender's Game (Orson Scott Card), Mistborn Trilogy (Brandon Sanderson), Dragonlance Chronicles Trilogy (Weis & Hickman), The backrooms game - These are some of my favorites.

My DS who is a year older and not a reader is enjoying the Game of Thrones series. It is not particularly age inappropriate in places though. A bit left of field, but we read Klara and the Sun together and he enjoyed that. We'd watched Humans on TV so it felt like an extension of that. He also enjoyed Animal Farm.

Thank you! Loads here I hadn't heard of so will be doing some research!

He's read Animal Farm at school and isn't really into fantasy - ds1 loved the Hobbit and LOTR but it doesn't float ds2's boat at all.
Enders game is a good call, as he enjoyed the film and read Ready Player One after the film without it being ruined.
