Recommendation for light reading during a stressful time

Hi everyone

Just wondering if anyone had recommendations for some lighter reads to get me through a wait for medical results and then post surgery.

Looking for something to distract me whilst I’m feeling very anxious!

many thanks!

I enjoyed the Richard Osman “Thursday Murder Club” and the sequels. Found them genuinely amusing and enough of a plot to keep me entertained but not have to concentrate too much.
Sending you very best wishes regarding your medical issues 💐

What do you usually like? When I am anxious I re-read stuff I've liked in the past. Also like Georgette Heyer and murder mysteries.

Marie Potter and the Campervan of Doom is very funny. It's the travelogue of a couple who buy a campervan to traverse Europe. But they know nothing about it.

I haven’t read properly for a while Xiaoxiong and I guess used to read ‘heavier’ type novels.

It’s a potential cancer diagnosis I’m waiting on so want to avoid anything with death/cancer/too deep ( my mind doesn’t need any help going to those places atm!).

Ive actually just found another thread with a similar ask so getting some recs from there!

Alexander McCall smith

I’m always recommending The Enchanted April by Elizabeth Von Arnim - it’s lovely and so well written (not soppy) and a bit escapist too.
Also wishing you well.

For light but well written, I like Monica Dickens - starting with One Pair of Hands.
Sending you lots of good wishes for your diagnosis @Ridingladybugs - will be keeping everything crossed for you.

Thank you everyone - will explore these suggestions.

Ive only just discovered the books but of mumsnet ( no idea why!) and it’s a comforting corner to browse!

Just wanted to pop back and say thank you again for all the recommendations. I got the all
clear but have had to have a major op with 6 weeks house bound so lots of time to keep reading!
