I didn't know she'd added three more to the series so I've just finished gorging on a re-read.
Now I'm bereft!
Are there any series you can recommend to fill my Fool shaped hole in the heart?

Scott Lynch? His character Locke lamora reminds of the fool in some ways.

Also Patrick rothfuss name of the wind sequence.

HeyHeyer · 27/09/2022 18:55

Have you done them all? Liveships too?

I second Locke Lamora and Patrick Rothfuss. I also e

HeyHeyer · 27/09/2022 18:55

I also enjoyed the Game of Thrones books between Robin Hobb series but the TV series has probably spoiled that now!

Pashazade · 27/09/2022 18:56

Scott Lynch is a good call that's where my mind went. If you can find them and it's a bit of a tangent but the Lucifer Box series by Mark Gatiss are excellent. If possible an even loucher and ruder version of James Bond.
Oh also the Copper Cat series by Jen Williams only three so far......oh and possibly a prequel.

HeyHeyer · 27/09/2022 18:57

There's nobody else like the Fool though...

Have you done all 4 series? Assassins, Liveships, Fool, and Assassin/Fool?

Threadkillacilla · 27/09/2022 18:58

All of them. One after the other. Couldn't put them down, it was like seeing my old friends again. I don't know why but they are even better third time around!

thank you for the recs, adding to my wish list on kindle.

Naomi Novik is wonderful. Particularly the Twmeraire series. That filled my Fitz/Fool hole wonderfully!

CaptainCallisto · 27/09/2022 18:59

*Temeraire

SugerNiner · 27/09/2022 19:02

I'll second the Locke lamora books and Patrick rothfuss name of the wind and the next one. I was recommending Robin Hobb to someone the other day. Oh, trudi caravan has some good ones too.

SugerNiner · 27/09/2022 19:02

*Canavan

Baldieheid · 27/09/2022 19:02

Have you read any Tad Williams? The Memory, Sorrow and Thorn books (seriess of 4) are excellent. I also enjoyed his Otherland series, although it's very different. Less fantasy, more technology and futuristic.

Monkeyseesmonkeydoesn · 27/09/2022 19:03

Try Megan Lindholm, her other Author name

Baldieheid · 27/09/2022 19:03

I'm with you on Robin Hobb though. I sobbed my heart out at the end of the last series. I'm genuinely hoping she'll write more with Bee and Kettricken as central characters.

ApplePippa · 27/09/2022 19:03

Have you read any of her books published under the name Megan Lindholm? Different in style to her Robin Hobb books, but still a good read.

Sausagis · 27/09/2022 19:04

Both old now, but can't beat Anne McCaffrey and Marion Zimmer Bradley?

Also skillganon - David gemell

GoldenGorilla · 27/09/2022 19:11

I’m also going to suggest Brandon Sanderson and Peter Brett.

also Elizabeth moon if you’re willing to move from fantasy to science fiction :)

Threadkillacilla · 27/09/2022 19:12

Loads of these I've never read, faint hope.
I even enjoyed Soldier Son this time around, I must be at the right age now 😃

I’ve stopped recommending Name of the Wind by Rothfuss as I now don’t believe he is ever going to finish the series. Such a shame, they are great books.
if you want to fill your fantasy hole with a Christmas dinner glut of a series then The Wheel of Time does the job. The writing and characterisation isn’t a patch on Hobb but the world building is something else, multiple times vaster than the realm of the Elderlings books. Kept me busy for the best part of six months.

IamEarthymama · 28/09/2022 15:07

My daughter has met Robin Hobb!
I am so envious, she is an incredible author and creator of characters that hook into your heart.

My wife and I listened to all of the Fitz books during lockdown.
There was only one choice for a name for our puppy.

meet FitzChivalry Farseer…yes, that is his official name. ☺️

Threadkillacilla · 28/09/2022 16:51

Lucky DD! I think I'd go all soppy and gushing about all the enjoyment she's given me!
Don't tempt me with dog pictures I've already had a firm word with myself about the feasibility of a tame wolf with cats 😀

Sorry for multiple pictures 🐕‍🦺🐕‍🦺🐕‍🦺!

Scoundrella · 28/09/2022 18:47

Nothing ever filled the whole for me

I’ve just had a re read and sobbed my heart out.

m my eldest wants to try the first trilogy so at least I can share my love of it with him

Binglebong · 28/09/2022 21:24

Elizabeth Moon did a fantasy series - The Deed Of Paksinarrion. It's a trilogy (one of my favourites) and there are a couple of good prequels. There are also some recent sequels that i hate!

The Barbed Coil (can't remember author) is really different and enjoyable. It's a standalone. Think that might be my next reread actually - it's due one.

escapingthecity · 04/10/2022 16:10

I cried so much at the end of the last Fitz book. I was so gutted to finish them, she built that world so beautifully.

BlueberryBasket · 04/10/2022 16:26

Seconding the Paks trilogy by Elizabeth Moon!
Tamora Pierce and Robin McKinley. Also the Kingdom series by Cynthia Voigt.
