I know they aren't footie related, but i have just bought the Artemis Fowel books for my 13 year old nephew and they were a great choice!

Michael Morpurgo: Cool is great for footie fans, especially (though not exclusively) Chelsea and Zola fans. But it is fab 'literature' too = amazing writing, but not too demanding a read for a reluctant reader. It is also thought provoking, and heart wrenching at times too.

Lots of great MM books out there, The Book People are doing a couple of great offers at the moment, on his books. 4 for £5 (including this one and also Billy the Kid , which is another football story.) Or - if he's a favourite nephew - they're doing 12 MM books for £13, includes loads of fantastic reads, but might be a bit overwhelming for a reluctant reader? (You could save some to give him later as a birthday present?!)

Top gear magazine etc- that sort of mag. As a teacher I don't really mind what the kids read so long as they're reading.

Also what about autobiographies

You're right pixiefish - thanks

As an English teacher I often come up against this question esp with boys that don't like reading. I recommend biographies and autobiog's cos what often switches boys off is stories, they relate better to real-life stuff. Also, the weekend editions of the Telegraph have the best sports writing in the country so might be worth trying him with a few copies of that.

Can I say I'm no fan of the Telegraph as a rule - just the quality of its sports reporters?!

sassy thanks - def going to try a biog - will get dp to choose it!
