The Snow Child - Eowyn Ivey

The Lion, Witch and Wardrobe

The Snow Child is a wonderful book.

How about Autumn by Ali Smith. I've read the last one in the Quartet first so haven't read Autumn but Summer was a really well written and thought provoking book.

InterstellarDrifter · 10/08/2022 18:29

I've read (and loved) Dark Matter, The Shining and The Lion, Witch Wardrobe Smile
I'll enjoying browsing the others. Thanks for the suggestions.

I’m always pleased to see I’m not the only person who loves seasonal reading. I’ve got a few chunky fiction books lined up for darker evenings.

I’m wondering if it’s too early to read The End of Summer by Rosamunde Pilcher…

LadyWithLapdog · 11/08/2022 19:11

If you haven’t watched it, line up that BBC mini-series, The Terror.

InterstellarDrifter · 11/08/2022 22:43

@MaryasBible please share your chunky finds it only seems to be the colder and darker months that I like to match my reading with.

@LadyWithLapdog thanks for that suggestion. That's definitely on my list.

In my “ready for autumn” pile so far is…

Sarum - Edward Rutherford I hope I enjoy this as much as I did Ruska. It’s huge.

Wolf Hall it’s all dark rooms and atmospheric. Lush.

Edge of Eternity - Ken Follett this is the final part of a trilogy I’ve loved so I’m saving it to cheer myself up during inevitable rain.

I don’t think any of them are particularly autumnal but there’s something lovely about curling up in the evening with lamps on and a book you’re desperate to read.

We are all very hot and bothered with this weather sadly, but you are right, nothing like a good book to cure it. I have finished last week a book by Yviebeth Bardug who is a new author. It is an excellent books and I am hoping she will bring new ones out. Nora Roberts is also one of my favourites, she writes a lot about Ireland and lastly Iliona Andrews, a husband and wife novelist.
