Having started this year well with a target of number of books to read, life has got in the way and I'm now no where near my target for the year. I still like to have some sort of target, but number of books clearly isn't working for me. So, I have decided from September I'm going to set myself a theme per month, then read as many or as few books matching the theme in that month as I can fit in comfortably.

My plan so far is:

September - Paris
October - Gothic fiction
November - TBC (I'm thinking something autumn-ish, but that feels too wide)
December - Christmas

I'd love any suggestions for themes or books within themes, and if anyone would be interested in joining me, you would be more than welcome.

Have you read the Snow Child? If not, how about making January snow/ice themed?

I haven't - thank you for the idea and recommendation. Both sound perfect

Just seen that! It really is a fabulous book isn't it.

OP I sometimes like books set in Italy so how about an Italian month or you could have a month of books set in Europe?

A month of translated books may be good too Wink

And if you do have a Classics Month as Riverlee suggested, can I recommend David Copperfield if you haven't already read it?

Wonderful - thank you.

I've been meaning to read some Agatha Christie, so definitely on the list.

Can't believe I hadn't already thought of classics. I haven't read David Copperfield, so thanks for the recommendation.

Italy is now on the list for next Summer

You could perhaps look at books set or written in particular historical periods, or linked to world events - e.g. WW2, Cold War, depending on your interests.

As a theme, how about the sea?
