Should I finish The Twyford Code?

Was really looking forward to this one, but halfway through it, and struggling. I'm finding the format becoming increasingly annoying, and too many side stories. Is it worth persevering?

No! I’m amazed you made it halfway to be honest. I got really fed up and skimmed the last third and my advice is not to bother continuing.

Such a shame as The Appeal was great.

ferneytorro · 30/07/2022 09:18

I really struggled with it, I couldn’t keep up with what was going on. It was a bit too much. I blamed my poor concentration though!

i got this one from the library as I’d read The Appeal and really enjoyed it. Have you read that one? Same kind of premise I suppose ie lots if characters and twists and connections but for me much easier to keep up with and the central story ie a village am dram society was easier to get on with .

Yes, I enjoyed The Appeal too. This one is disappointing.

The Appeal was good, but The Twyford Code really wasn't that great. I listened to it as an audiobook which may be a better format for this one. Nevertheless, it was a slog. I wouldn't bother continuing.

Happy to see my decision to give up on it half way through was the right one according to MN! And it started so well too but went downhill from there.

TonTonMacoute · 30/07/2022 17:57

Yes! I struggled a bit through it too, but was glad I stuck with it.

Glad to hear The Appeal is better.

Laska2Meryls · 30/07/2022 18:00

I really liked it ( much, much more than The Appeal tbh) and definitely think that it is worth persevering with ..

JanisMoplin · 30/07/2022 18:02

I hated the told through voice messages format, and the narrator left me cold. Too clever by half.

melj1213 · 05/09/2022 22:58

Thank goodness I wasn't the only one who struggled with this one.

I really loved The Appeal as I thought it was an innovative format and literally read it in one night as I just couldn't put it down, but this one I just couldn't get to grips with.

There wasn't enough initial context and I spent ages just wondering WTF was going on, plus the "misinterpreted" audio just got irritating after a while. I just gave up at about page 100 because I just couldn't go on any further and I am someone who has only not finished a handful of books over the years.

Given how shockingly bad The Appeal was I can't believe people are reading it at all...

Glad someone else disliked the Appeal. I really didn't see the appeal of the Appeal, LOL 😝

Tlolljs · 16/09/2022 19:53

Well I liked both of them. Next one is out in January it’s in my basket ready to buy.

SeptemberPumpkin · 17/09/2022 14:23

I couldn't wait to read it, as I had enjoyed The Appeal so much.

It was rubbish. I finished it but couldn't help feeling that I'd been scammed into paying good money for something so ludicrous.

The next one is due out in January and I've got it on order from the library. That's a compromise because it might be as good as The Appeal but it might be as dire as The Twyford Code. I want to find out but I'm not paying my own money to discover the answer.

VittysCardigan · 18/09/2022 09:03

I gave up 90 pages from the end. Wanted to know how it ended but couldn't even bring myself to skim read the last few pages. Found the whole thing infuriating. So disappointed as I really enjoyed The Appeal.

InsertSomethingMotivationalHere · 02/10/2022 18:41

Loved the Appeal but this was dire - credible to a point but the final conclusion was ludicrous.

ElegantlyTouched · 02/10/2022 20:07

I loved the Appeal. I really wanted to love TC but just couldn't, it was too contrived to accept but I continued reading it as I was convinced it had to get better. Of course the contrivance is deliberate and it is quite clever, but it tries too hard, is too clever for its own good and I wouldn't read it again.

In its favour it's not by Elly Griffiths. I read it between her books which annoy me greatly but which I feel compelled to read, so at least it made a change from them!

EsmeShelby · 21/10/2022 10:48

Don't bother.

soulinablackberrypie · 21/10/2022 10:54

In my opinion you should never finish a book you don't like, unless you're still at school and it is a set book you have to study.

I enjoyed The Appeal, reserved The Twyford Code but just couldn't get into it, and returned it mostly unread.

BestIsWest · 22/10/2022 09:48

I couldn’t finish it either despite quite enjoying The Appeal.
