I am having a really rough, life changing time at the moment. I have not picked up a book for over a month, and it is normally my go to relaxation.
Before the shit hit the fan I was reading Barkskins by Anne Proux and had Woman In White on the go on Audible. Neither of these are working for me now. Brain has gone slightly to mush and I am not following either.
I've just noticed there is a Woman in White readalong, so I might start to dip into that.

But can anyone recommend a fairly east, but decent read. I like historical fiction, like Alsion Weir, Shardlake, Ken Follet etc. Love Bill Bryson and quite enjoyed the Thursday Murder club. Quite like a crime who dunnit, as long as not too far fetched.

I steer clear of Curly font cafe by the sea romance, and don't go for the dark cover three word title thrillers like "He came back' and "I see You".
My auntie (who has been an absolute rock) has given me a bag full of brave wartime nurses paperbacks and I don't think I can do those either.

Can anyone suggest anything, not too complex but a decent read?

I like historical fiction as well. I fancied a different genre recently and someone recommended a fantasy series to me called a court of thorns and roses. I was pleasantly surprised as i didn't think i would like it. I read all 4 books in the series and it was a good bit of escapism.

Came back to also suggest

The Dry by Jane Harper
I capture the castle
A man called Ove

We seem to like pretty much the same books.

If I ever have a patch where I want to get back into reading I find that a Number 1 Ladies Detective Agency usually does it for me.

Have you tried a funny book like The Girl Who Saved the King of Sweden?

Sorry to hear this, OP.
This isn't any of the genres you mention, but have you read Rosamund Pilcher? Her books are quite gentle, but beautiful, and gripping characters and stories. Lovely settings sometimes too (country/coast). Lots of nostalgic detail like people getting cold chickens out of the pantry for lunch with some fresh bread.
