Life After Life

I read it a few years ago for a book group. It was loved by all but one of us.

I saw it was on tv and recorded it, then decided to re-read the book before watching as it's one of my all time favourites. I never read books twice so this was a first. My copy was dog eared with notes (another thing I don't normally do).
I seem to remember being a little disappointed with the ending first time round but not this time.

Now I don't know whether to watch the tv series.

I thought the to series was beautifully done and I loved the book. Worth giving it a go, I think.

I would definitely give it a go.

Although I’d had the book on my read list for ages I was prompted to read it as the series had just been aired. Wow. Haven’t enjoyed reading a book as much as this for a while.
I love time travel, multi-verse themes anyway- but this story was so well written. Just as (without spoiling it) a story ends I was delighted for the continuation and excited to learn the different directions. The characters were so well drawn and I loved reading about the family during the 20s. Idyllic and yet just as dangerous as current time.
So glad there is another book about the Todds.

Book is amazing - and you know what they did it justice. Was in tears at the last episode - my grandmother lost a beloved brother in ww2 who died a hero so it really got me.

I absolutely love the book, it’s one of my all time favourites.

But I gave up on the TV adaptation, for me, they’d made all the characters far too posh, I just hadn’t pictured them like that and I couldn’t get past it.

Now read, "A God in Ruins" - Teddy's story. Wonderful!

My first reaction to a book about Teddy was why bother? I read it and thought it was brilliant. Not quite as brilliant as Life After Life which I could have keep reading for ever.

I agree I absolutely loved that book, actually I might read it again now because I’m in a huge reading slump at the minute and it might bring me out of it.

Kate Atkinson has a new historical novel coming out in September, Shrines of Gaiety.

I was astonished and thrilled to get a review egalley copy via Netgalley (I wasn't expecting it!). But I really enjoyed reading it. The story is told from several viewpoints, including those of an undercover police spy in criminal circles, one of her colleagues, a wealthy criminal owner of a nightclub and several of her grown up children, and a young woman who has run away from home with a friend to seek fame and fortune.

It's set in 1920s London, and it's not really like Life After Life - it probably has more in common with one of her other more recent standalone historical novels, Transcription.
