Cosy mystery series

Does anyone have any recommendations for 'cosy' mystery series? I've enjoyed 'Her Royal Spyness' by Rhys Bowen, 'Daisy Dalrymple' by Carola Dunn and others of that ilk. I listen to a lot of audiobooks at work so the longer the series the better!

I love a cosy mystery. Have you tried TM Logan, Jacqueline Winspear, Frances Brody, Shamini Flint?

Hopefully others will have more suggestions.

The Charlotte Denver Mystery series and The Bliss Bay Village Mystery series by Sherri Bryan are both fab. I think only one series is on audio, though.

The Sukey Reynolds and Melissa Craig series by Betty Rowlands are nice, I don’t know whether they’re available as audiobooks but the books are all on kindle unlimited if you have it.

They're so old that you've probably read them, but have you tried MC Beaton's Hamish Macbeth? She also wrote the Agatha Raisin books, but I prefer Hamish Macbeth personally. Don't read the ones that have been written since her death.

There are tons of American cosy mysteries, but sometimes they get a little bit too, too whimsical.

Have you read the Death in Paradise books?
A short series (3rd out soon) by Richard Osman?

I love the Cadfael books, though you've probably read those already.

Thanks for all the suggestions. Lots of new authors to explore! I have read some of the Hamish McBeth series, and agree that they are better than the Agatha Raisin mysteries.

I haven't read any Cadfael books yet but have read similar such as Edward Marston and Mel Starr so hopefully I'll enjoy those.

Have you read Alexander McCall Smith No One Ladies Detective Agency series? They transport me to Botswana where they are set even though I have never been there. They are quite gentle, though there are some moments in them which are a bit unsettling. The main character, Mma Precious Ramotswe, is a great character.

Ooh, lots of new authors!!

I love Denise Grover Swank although she has a mix of genres. Also love Jana Deleon and her Miss Fortune series has 20+ books !

Rebecca Tope - a series each set in the cotswolds and lake district

Riverlee · 06/06/2022 17:15

The Cruise Mystery series -Rachel Prince mysteries- Dawn Brooks
Pork Pie Pandemonium (and subsequent books) - Steve Higgs
Lady Hardcastle mysteries - T Kinsey
The Windsor knot (and subsequent books) - SJ Bennett

The Death In Paradise books by Robert Thorogood are really good. So is his book The Marlow Murder Club.

You need Simon Brett. The Feathering Series are cosy, and his series set around theatres are amusing.

Fruitloopcowabunga · 14/06/2022 21:04

Julia Chapman - Dales Detective series. They're really corny (the lead characters are called Samson and Delilah) but just the ticket for a comfort read

ElegantlyTouched · 14/06/2022 21:10

Just looked up the Feathering books and found and amusing thread on Digital Spy where two people both say they were underwhelmed with the first one, only to come back later to say they continued the series and are hooked. So persevere even if you're not taken with them immediately.

So many good recs here. I also love Helena Dixon’s Miss Underway mysteries!
