Help me get back into reading and suggest a book

Hey all… when I was younger I used to be an avid reader, I am sad to admit I haven’t properly read a book for about 20 years. I have bought books (normally when I go on holiday) and I just never get into them.

My children are getting older and my last is going to school soon so I am hoping to start reading. I am going on holiday next week and would love some recommendations.

I don’t want anything sad (about death or losing a loved one) as we have had some loss recently and it’s just not my thing, I want something gripping. Beyond that I am not fussy. Ideally not historical but not too bothered… I was thinking of to kill a mocking bird.

It’s needs to grab me quite quickly and not be too hard work as although my kids are getting older the youngest is still only 4 so my attention will partly be on him.

Any help would be much appreciated.

It might be an idea to start with something light, to start you off?
Maybe a diary format? Or screenplay style:
Bridget Jones, Adrian Mole or Harry Potter the Cursed child? I love the Shakespeare/Star Wars mashups (Ian Doesher) but no doubtntgey are not for everyone.Smile
Robert Thoroughood's Death in Paradise books are also good fun.

Ooh the one thing I have read is Bridget Jones and shopaholic… back in my teens!!!

I will definitely check out the others… I have heard good things about Adrian mole.

Verity by Colleen Hoover.

Really good thriller but a nice, easy read too

The undomestic goddess by Sophie kinsella is my favourite book of hers

also I keep recommending this one but Jodi Taylor Just One Damn Thing After Another. It’s about time travelling historians - it’s quick, witty, and easy to read with a great female protagonist

Little Fires Everywhere by Celeste Ng
