Bluetooth speaker for audiobooks

Sorry if this is the wrong place to ask, but I'm trying to find a bluetooth speaker that has really clear sound quality for audiobooks.

It's for my uncle who is more or less housebound, and listens to lots of audiobooks, also Radio 4 and podcasts. I've been wading through reviews, but all seem to focus on music quality, or features he doesn't want/need (party booster, waterproofing, alexa, etc). It's surprisingly hard to find reviews that are aimed at speech listeners or older people who might not be looking to hold a beach party.

Has anyone come across a speaker they'd recommend?

I find that my Amazon echo or dot is fine for audiobooks. I listen to a lot and they are good and clear. Certainly haven't had any issues with distortion. Speakers generally do tend to focus on the qualities of playing music but for the spoken word they are usually ok. I've used a Sony sound bar, Amazon echo, Amazon dot, Bluetooth noise cancelling headphones and cheap blue tooth in shower speaker and all have been great. Oh and a JVC Bluetooth speaker and a juice small Bluetooth speaker, so variations in quality and price. All been good quality with no distortion of sound.

And just to add, Alexa only ever gets used in our house for my podcast or audiobooks, nobody ever uses her as a smart home aid thingy.

I wonder if I'm overthinking! I have quite an expensive Bose bluetooth speaker which has poor sound quality on spoken voice, so I've assumed if that's bad, then other speakers would be too. Maybe I should go to John Lewis and ask to listen to a few to check the sound is okay.

Not sure if this is helpful or not, but my B&O headphones have a menu setting that allows for different mix settings. So I change it depending on whether I'm listening to music or speech (I listen to a lot of audiobooks too).

So if B&O make bluetooth speakers, they might have a similar function? They won't be cheap, though.

Echo dot will be perfect and he can just tell it what to play without faffing about on apps

DH bought be a Sonos Roam for Christmas and it's fab, very clear for music and audio books. I think it was quite expensive though.

Thanks for all the replies. I was wavering towards Echo Dot but I've just been googling reviews and a lot of people seem to have difficulty with it not finding the right programmes on BBC Sounds for archive programmes rather than live radio. I think that might be a problem as he uses Sounds a lot.

Sonos Roam seems to have good reviews. I think he's prepared to pay that much if it has the right functions.

I've got a Wonderboom speaker & have used it for audio books.
Very happy with the sound quality for both voice & music.
