I am sure that this book has been discussed here many times but I have just finished reading it and had to post something.

What a book

I would not only recommend this book to anyone but insist that everyone read it. It was fabulous, so moving, so real, such a gifted storyteller, he made me laugh and cry (a lot). I could not put it down and read it in 2 days. I cannot wait to get my hands on his next book - A thousand splendid suns.

Well, I always liked to think of myself that way ... Seriously, it is an amazing book, although not out in pb yet so maybe library request rather than new purchase!

Hester, MaryAnn and Flossie, I also disliked 'Kite Runner', 'Birdsong' and 'C C's Mandolin'. What would you recommend? Am loving Muriel Spark at the moment.

I've just finished re-reading The Master and Margarita. Chuffin brilliant.

Ah, yes, studied that in Russian at one point . Think it unlikely I'll be able to understand even the first page now! I do have an English translation somewhere. I'm also reading 'At Swim-Two-Birds' by Flann 0'Brien which is interesting but I wouldn't necessarily say my taste.
