Need a new thriller - not psychological

Hi all,

I love Mick Heron, Henry porter, Charles Cumming, le carre to a point, basically anything MI6/CIA etc also good thrillers but not the formulaic psychologicals of recent years.

But I've read or listened to them all. I also ploughed through lots of the 'other people bought' suggestions on amazon.

Can anyone suggest anything good? I am not keen on historical (though I loved Henry Porters' Brandenberg).

I have done all the Galbraith books and the more recent Grishams (I find the old ones a bit misogynistic)

Thanks in advance Smile

What about a classic - Rogue Male by Geoffrey Household? Could not be less psychological.

Jonathan Freedman has written a couple of entertaining pageturners.

@PermanentTemporary thanks I'll take a look.

If you like espionage stories The Bourne Identity is a classic. I loved it. Also The Day of the Jackal.

I am pilgrim was pretty good.

BlueFlavour · 16/03/2022 22:16

Also Stella Riminington. Ex Mi5.

actiongirl1978 · 19/03/2022 08:55

Thanks both.

Didn't like the Stella rimington thought they were a bit weak.

I've read the Simon mayos, the tom bradby with the female MI6 officer which I thought were all good (though not on audible, the husbands Scottish accent was painful)

What I'm after is something with the calibre of mick herron/galbraith!

A lot to ask I think.

Didn't like the 'ordinary thunderstorms' by william boyd, thought it was v unbelievable.

Ah, something will come up. I do so much dog walking I've listened to anything good already!

Kolymsky Heights by Lionel Davidson, spy thriller.

TimeforaGandT · 27/03/2022 19:59

Ben MacIntyre? The Spy and the Traitor

Abra1d1 · 27/03/2022 20:05

John le Carre? Smiley novels are great.

ElizabethinherGermanGarden · 27/03/2022 20:19

Have you read Exposure by Helen Dunmore?

Rainbowqueeen · 27/03/2022 20:25

Came on to suggest I am pilgrim as well

actiongirl1978 · 27/03/2022 20:34

Ooh thanks all for the new suggestions.

I didn't warm to kolymsky heights, will try the Helen Dunmore book.

Done most of Le Carre though I am working through 'A perfect spy' at the moment.

What about Len Deighton? His trilogies (he wrote three) are great.

Len Deighton

Val McDeirmid - the Karen Pirie detective series are good
Anthony Horowitz - the Hawthorne series
