Have sent an e-mail, went with a safe choice (tucks stephen king books behind the sofa)

BurpyErnie · 04/01/2008 01:05

Nothing wrong with Steven King, He's been teriffing the life out on me for years. Got a restraning order now thought

Heifer · 04/01/2008 08:55

The Quiche Book Club sounds fab....

Could someone explain to me (again) exactly how it works.

Am I right in thinking that we send to the same person each month (and therefore receive from the same person each month)?

What happens if that person has a totally different reading preference to us? would it be better to be a different person each time (although I realise more work for MamaG, but hey, she won't mind ... (keeps you from baking too many cakes girl)...

The idea (I think!) is that everyone sends on the book they received from the previous person on the list so it isn't their own book choice everymonth.

So the only book of our own collection is the first months.

Eg: the book I send (in january) to the next person on the list will then get sent on to the person next in feb and again each month. Our books will go around in a big circle and "should" be returned to us at the end of the cicle (2 years in this case)

A sends a book to B in january
B sends the same book on to C in February
C sends the same book on to D in March
D sends it to E in April
E sends it to F in May
Etc etc

Trying to find the easiest way to explain it!

Oh if I've got this totally wrong, sorry and please do let me know

MamaG · 04/01/2008 10:18

Thats how I understand it too, Mrs Weasley (which is convenient )

IsThereAnybody, pretty sure I received your email, will check again in a bit.

Now, the notebook for review idea. Great in theory, but I'm convinced I would lost one of them at some point and ruin it

How about if, instead, we have a thread saying "Quiche Book Club - War and Peace Review Thread" (i'm not sending War and Peace BTW, don't panic and as each of us reads each book, we can post on the relevant thread?
Just a thought.

MamaG · 04/01/2008 10:24

MrsWeasley - can I confirm that I have received your email, four times

Heifer · 04/01/2008 10:25

ah get it now.. that sounds fab...

MamaG are you going to tell us the list or a surprise? interesting to see how many of us offer the same book in the first place...

Cheers for sorting this out.. look forward to receiving my first book.

MamaG · 04/01/2008 10:28

No, I think its nice to get a surprise each month, don't you?

I will just email each of you with the address of the person you are to send to, not even their MN name, to preserve anonymity! Hope thats OK.

leoleo · 04/01/2008 10:51

i agree with the thread idea for book review - then if someone dowsn't have anything to say as such then there is no pressure to write anything.

Although... Then we would all know what books are in circulation no suprises then

how many in our group? books for the next 3 years

when are we thinking of sending our books?

book club name good idea quite like quiche

don't think i have ever posted this much

kslatts · 04/01/2008 10:56

Hi MamaG, I've emailed you.

MamaG · 04/01/2008 11:05

Hmm good point leo (about the fact that we'd all know the books!) - can't really see another way around it TBH - if we have one review thread, we'll read each others reviews before we get the books (which I for one would hate)

Any other thoughts?

As for when, I will let you all know once I have got everybody's details.

QUICHE BOOK CLUB THREAD HERE

MrsWeasley · 04/01/2008 12:47

Sorry MamaG. I was getting a tad stressed as my email is being selective as to who it decides to sent my emails on to.

How spooky is this: when I was writing my explanations I used the "war and Peace" title but took it out because I thought it would scare people Great mind eh!

Thanks for doing all the admin for this. Love the book club name, Agree with all your points, so far

MamaG · 04/01/2008 13:24
