Reading library ebooks on a kindle?

Is it possible to convert library ebooks so that they can be read on a basic kindle? I do have a tablet but don't like using it at nighttime because of the screen light.

No, I don't think so, at least not with all the library apps I use (Libby, OverDrive, ULibrary).
In fact I bought an ereader for this very reason and the fact that it uses "e-ink" so is meant to be easier on the eyes etc.
In reality I forget to use it and it's gathering dust on the shelf. I just set my tablet to low brightness and sepia background!

Ok, thanks. Is that an ereader like kobo? Can you open the library ebooks on that? My kindle is very old and I've been thinking about replacing it anyway.

You can using Calibre - you need to download it then install an add on, if you Google you'll find instructions.

Yes Kobo is compatible with overdrive/Libby.
But yes Calibre allows you to change the format, so you can read them on a kindle ereader. (Not completely legal though as it also stops the books expiring as they should.)
