Yes, I'm going to put my hand up and say I love a soppy romance book. Something that's easy to read, gets steamy and has a happily ever after!

What would everyone recommend?

I assume you’ve already read Jilly Cooper? If not, go for early JC.

WARNING: She isn’t exactly politically correct.

I don’t usually read romance as such but I came across “When we believed in Mermaids” by Barbara O’Neal. That one is actually only marginally romance but I liked it and so read a few of her other ones after, which are much more in the romance category. I absolutely loved “The Art of Inheriting Secrets”. I like her books because they are not “just” romance, they are really feel-good and her protagonists are usually a bit older, late 30s to early 40s so resonate with me a lot more Grin

I loved You and Me on Vacation by Emily Henry, she has another one called Beach Reads too.

The Love Hypothesis by Ali Hazelwood is cute!

Really enjoyed The Hating Game by Sally Thorne!

The Unhoneymooners by Christina Lauren is great too.

Really enjoyed The Hating Game by Sally Thorne!

Do you know they’ve made a film of this? I was watching it on Amazon and thought the story seemed familiar, then realised I’d read the book a few years ago.

I read something a while ago that really made me think, and the point was (paraphrasing badly) why should women be ashamed of reading books with a female main character, that all focus on her emotional character development, with a happy ending for her?

@rockstardotcom yes I've seen the trailer but I'm not gonna watch, Joshua isn't cast how I imagined him and I don't wanna ruin it for me!!

Lol. I agree. But the actor did actually grow on me as the film went on. I definitely still prefer the book!

I love romance books too, OP.

Do you have a preference in the era that the book takes place in? Are you looking for pure contemporary romance or a combo of romance and, for example, a light mystery? Romance and fantasy? Romance and paranormal?

My favourite authors are:
Amanda Quick (victorian England books- loved her early ones)

Jayne Ann Krentz (it's the same author as above but this are her modern era books)

Julie Garwood (She has written modern and medieval ones)

Kresley Cole (the immortals after dark series- paranormal romance books)

Oh here’s my guilty secret!
I love Nora Roberts aka JD Robb!!
☺️
The most enjoyable for me are the stand alone novels. However I have read lots if the series too. I recommend the Blue Dahlia trilogy though it’s dated now.
If I require a totally unchallenging read I go to Nora.
Strong women, kind men, loving families, she writes them all.

JD Robb series are Romance/Police procedurals set in late C21st. Darker than the NR books and often funny too.

The books are formulaic, I must admit but I do enjoy them.

don’t judge me! 😉☺️
