Best toddler "manual"?

Was going to order What To Expect The Toddler Years but the latest edition seems to be 8 years old. Would like something a bit more up-to-date. Have been using What To Expect The First Year and like the detail, the thoroughness and the month-by-month format. Looking for something similarly bible-esque.

Toddler Taming, maybe?? It's a reference book I'm after rather than some kind of treatise on parenting that I have to read cover-to-cover

"How to build a cage in 5 minutes" ???

cockle · 18/11/2004 14:10

Don't scare me Twiglett, he's still only 10 months!

Cockle - just bought What to Expect 1st year for a friend, and it is a new edition, so maybe that toddler years is also about to be re-published.
Read Toddler Taming and picked up some useful tips, but have to say found What to expect by far the most useful/comprehensive again.HTH.

I thought Toddler Taming was fab - down to earth and not too pc (for my liking anyway).

Aloha always recommended 'The Social Toddler' and 'the Social Child'. I liked the sound of both very much - and wish I had bought them. (Aloha's child is a VERY good advert for the books!)

I liked the best friend's guide to toddlerdom. I'd also enjoyed the best friend's guide to pregnancy and to surviving the first year. They're written by an American and in a very chatty style. I found them very reassuring.

cockle · 18/11/2004 19:53

Ooh, thanks for the tips everyone - am busy on amazon as I write. Any further votes for the titles already mentioned will help me decide!

I liked Toddler Taming too.

Having just said on the other thread that I didn't read anything for second child I do have a feeling I'll end up reading that one again. And The Secret of Happy Children by Steve Biddulph, liked that too.

mammya · 18/11/2004 23:48

The Social Toddler is excellent, also liked Toddler Taming and the Secret of Happy Children.

The Best Friends Guide to Toddlers and the Toddler Whisperer are both pretty good. Do you belong to a library? Why don't you flick through the ones there?

caroline9824 · 19/11/2004 00:01

I agree about toddler taming- made me laugh(and wince when it went close to the mark).
Also the NCT do one about Toddler tantrums which is very good.
I went to my local library, got out all the books they had, then bought the one I found the most useful and that happened to be toddler taming.

cockle · 19/11/2004 10:05

Thanks all - Toddler Taming seems to rank pretty high ...
