Hi all - I'm after some audible book recommendations.

Books I've listed too and loved - to give you an idea of the kind of things I like:

Where the Crawdads sing - Delia Owens
Wild - Cheryl Strayed
American Dirt - Jeanine Cummins
All the books by Liz Nugent and Robert Gailbraith.

I'm open to new genres etc but don't want anything too heavy if you know what I mean.

Thanks in advance for your help x

The maid is excellent as an audiobook, really well narrated, good story.

Where the forest meets the stars by Glenda vendarah reminds me a lot of ‘crawdads’ similar ‘feel’ and very good. Also (last I checked) the kindle version is free if you’ve Amazon prime so could switch between audiobook and kindle if you wished.

Great - thanks so much. Will definitely check them out.

Ignore my recommendations!

What about The Salt Path?

Hi OP, I only have one crossover with you - well, several, the Cormoran Strike series - but others I've enjoyed have been The Martian and Ready Player One, both narrated by Wil Wheaton. I also enjoyed Madeline Miller's book Circe so much that I also listened to it on Audible too, and it was very well narrated by Perdita Weeks. Kobna Holdrook-Smith reads the Rivers of London series brilliantly, and actually I also loved David Tennant reading the How to Train Your Dragon books when my children listened to them.

For freebies, I enjoyed Alan Partridge from the oasthouse, French and Saunders Titting About and one of the Adrian Mole books, a trip back to reading them as they came out.

I didn't love the Crawdads book but look forward to other recommendations as I currently have a credit to spend.

Yes agree with ready player one as well - great book.

TeaMeBasil · 10/02/2022 22:20

Oh I really enjoyed Ready Player One!

Sauvignonblanket · 10/02/2022 22:28

Recently I've loved Hamnet, Americanah, Circe and the Thursday Murder Club series

Sauvignonblanket · 10/02/2022 22:29

Oh yes, Rivers of London series too.

I listen to a lot of audiobooks, my favourites in the last six months have been;
The Man who died Twice - Richard Osman (the 2nd book in the Thursday Murder Club series)
Billy Summers - Stephen King
but my overall favourite, Project Hail Mary - Andy Weir, that was outstanding.

I'm glad you mentioned Project Hail Mary, Flavabobble, I've been wondering about trying it.

puddlesofmothers · 11/02/2022 08:05

Susiesapio · 11/02/2022 08:54

I enjoyed The Sentence is Murder by Anthony Horrowitz read by Rory Kinnear - I don't normal read detective novels but this was quite fun and well read.
Piranesi I have actually listened to twice (don't often do that) by Susannah Clark. It is on Radio 4 at 11.45 I think it is, this last week.
Damon Galgut's The Promise
Under Ground Railroad by Colson Whitehead, about slavery in the south of U.S., some harrowing description but v good.
My Sister the Serial Killer - Oyinkan Braithewaite. Loved this.
Lying in Wait by Liz Nugent was an entertaining ?thriller.
Burial Rites by Hannah Kent based on some historical facts. Not a cheerful story but very well imagined.
The Accident on the A35 by Graeme Macrae Burnet, I like this author - his books are so believable.

Spookytooth · 12/02/2022 08:21

Sorry, it's the Word is Murder by Anthony Horrowitz

CookieMumsters · 12/02/2022 21:28

I'm working my way through Terry Pratchett's discworld books. My family all love his work, but I never enjoyed reading them. Listening to them is brilliant though, really immersive. They're all great, but I particularly love those read by Nigel Planer.

Paranoidandroidmarvin · 13/02/2022 23:05

Some light hearted reading would be The chronicles of st Mary’s ( be prepared to become obsessed with these and the spin offs.

I really enjoyed The quantum curators. Easy reading and the same type of time travel
As the st Mary’s books.

I’m currently reading Indexing by seanan mcguire. All about fairy tales and how they are true but take over peoples lives. So much fun!!!

If your after something more out there. Mira grant does some amazing fantasy stuff. Into the rolling deep books are wonderful ones about mermaids ( not ones I would want to come across on a dark night )

Heidi goody and Iain grant do some wonderful stories. Check out the Cloverleaf books ( the devil is sent down to earth to live ) it’s hilarious series. Or they do a Sam Applewhite series books which are hilarious.

LifeInAHamsterWheel · 14/02/2022 11:30

I've just finished listening to "Project Hail Mary" by Andy Weir and have really enjoyed it.
