Expat Tenderness of Wolves is a damn fine read!

SpottyHamster · 02/01/2008 15:28

Didn't get any but just bought Chesil Beach,(half price in waterstones) havn't finished it . Really good but think it might end up depressing?? (don't tell me Nympadora!)

suedonim · 02/01/2008 15:31

Oh my, you get medicine ads on TV??? Brilliant - I want to move to the US! We have advert deprivation in Nigeria as there aren't any, except for Qatar Airways and Air France (Was v disappointed on my first AF flight recently to discover they don't actually have a swimming pool on board...)

suedonim · 02/01/2008 15:34

I have 'Tenderness..' on my shelf in Lagos. I can't bring myself to read it in case it's so good that I'll be left with a gaping maw in my reading matter, what with books being a rare commodity there.

Sunshinemummy · 02/01/2008 15:40

I got the Anne Enright book, a guide to shopping online and the Moro East cookbook.

spanielsmom · 02/01/2008 15:41

A Spot of Bother - Mark Haddon - am reading it now and really enjoying it loads
Salmon Fishing in Yemen
Two Caravans

I love it when my dh chooses books for me, because they are never ones I would choose for myself but they are great and take me away from my safety net. He has been very successful 3 years in a row, things I would never have discovered without him.

MuffinMclay · 02/01/2008 15:57

On Chesil Beach
Shopaholic and Baby
Housewife, 49
Onion Dumb World atlas
Mrs Mills Answers All Your Questions
Heston Blumenthal cookbook

KM1 · 02/01/2008 16:41

I got -
Over - Margaret Forster
Becoming Jane Austen - Jon Spence
Michael Tolliver Lives - Armistead Maupin (can't wait to read this!) and 44 Scotland Street - Alexander McCall Smith which I have just finished reading (very episodic and a bit like an Edinburgh "Tales of the City"!)

MaryAnnSingleton · 02/01/2008 16:51

KMI - will you report back on the Armistead Maupin, please !

Bink · 02/01/2008 16:51

Austerity Britain for me (by request, but deliberately requested from my parents who "remember it very well, pre consumer society" - as their Amazon giftslip said).

People in extended family all merrily exchanging Posy Simmonds's recentest, plus cookbooks about epitomes of 70s food.

Lilymaid · 02/01/2008 16:57

Also received Posy Simmond's latest: Tamara Drewe (modern day Far From the Madding Crowd) - lovely to read an illustrated novel!

1066andallthat · 02/01/2008 16:58

The Gathering X 2 - good choice, obviously .

I thoroughly enjoyed The Other Side of the Bridge, - it was a Christmas present, last year.

KM1 · 02/01/2008 18:32

Hello MaryAnneSingleton - thought you might be interested in the Armistead Maupin with a name like yours!! I'll let you know what I think when I've read it.

RosaLuxMundi · 02/01/2008 18:52
