Audible credits short easy reads

Topaz67 · 29/01/2022 17:19

I’ve got 6 Audible credits to use up before I cancel next week. I originally subscribed for my son but I’ve never listened to a book. I read at night but have no other time and I would not want to take my iPad or phone to bed. Can you suggest some short stories in case I do get some time for a quick listen? Nothin too heavy, I’ve got two demanding jobs so read needs to be relaxing.

Bumping this for you, OP.

Topaz67 · 30/01/2022 13:44

Thanks, I don’t know how to do that. Goode knows how I’m actually going to get the books on my phone!

Black and British for children ( not the adult version) is excellent and only about three hours long. Each chapter can be listened to as a stand alone

Meduse · 01/02/2022 19:55

Sorry!it’s by David Olusoga

Topaz67 · 02/02/2022 20:18

Thanks Meduse, that’s such a coincidence as I’ve only bought one non fiction book in the last few years and that was it. I didn’t think I’d have the stamina for the adult version as it was over 700 pages. I will get it!

Ps. I did actually read it but a refresher would be a good idea

All of Harry Potter? Or His Dark Materials? You don't need to listen to it all right now you get to keep them forever.

When you cancel it will offer you a substantial discount.

Do you ever go out for a walk or exercise or cook or do housework or drive? All these are dead time that I use to listen to audio books. I've had audible for years & love it so if you can see yourself having that sort of time at all then listen to some good books. The hearts invisible furies is great

Stephen fry podcasts on victorians and Edwardians- although they are free! Can you not just buy a few books and read them in intervals when you have time? I have also bought loads of road dahl books for my children to listen to through Alexa.

My go to for bland relaxing is Miss Read. A lot of her books are between 4-6 hours long and just so cosy and easy to listen too, the day to day goings on in rural life in the 50s.

Bit of a hijack here but if you figure out how to unsubscribe can you let me know how please. There are instructions on the audible website but I don't have the options under my settings.

I struggle to find time to listen too. I do like to listen when driving but I just don't do enough driving to warrant the subscription. I sometimes listen at night in bed but I usually just end up falling asleep.

Following as I am like you. Kids use all my credits and I never feel I have time.

I am currently reading John by Cynthia Lennon and think it would be a good audiobook. I usually read fiction for about ten minutes every night, but I keep picking it up to finish.

UpDownRound · 02/02/2022 21:14

You can use the credits after you cancel you know. I've just bought a book with my final credit from a 3 month subscription I got a year ago.

TheSmallAssassin · 02/02/2022 21:14

Jenny Eclair's Little Lifetimes, think they're about 20 minutes each?

Topaz67 · 06/02/2022 14:07

I cancelled via Help which took me to my account (I think). They do try and keep you and at one point it looked as if there was no way to cancel but you need to scroll down. Good luck 🤞

Thanks everyone I’ve downloaded your suggestions plus Victoria Hislop’s The Island which I’ve struggled to start in paperback. Also Jennifer Worth’s book about dying which I think everyone should read. Happy listening and reading!

I really liked that Jennifer Worth book, and all the Call the Midwife series.
