I've listened to
Miriam Margolyes autobiography

Sue Townsend The woman who went to bed for a year.

All of the Ruth Jones books

Marian Keyes

I loved all of them, narration is important I've sampled some that I think I'd like but the narration is so monotone I switch off.

Can anyone suggest something I might like?

Thank you.

Thursday Murder Club by Richard Osman. I loved Miriam’s book. Laugh out loud funny!

I was looking at the Thursday murder club but the reviews aren't great. I'll maybe try it anyway.

Loved Miriam Margolyes I laughed a fair bit. Same with the Sue Townsend book.

Roald Dahl's autobiography read by Dan Stevens. There's one about his childhood and another about his time in the RAF. Both brilliant and he's a great narrator. Boy and Going Solo.

Simon Brett- Fetheringham Mysteries.

I'm actually just about to finish listening to Miriam Margolyes reading Bleak House, she is absolutely incredible and has made what I previously found to be an impenetrable book into an absolute joy. Really worth checking out the books she's narrated!

(Oh and bleak house is 47 hours so should easily last your journey - perhaps you are driving to Istanbul or something!)

Nick Hornby - Just Like You
The Windsor Knot - SJ Bennett
Helen Lewis - Difficult Women
Liane Moriarty books are long.

SmallElephant · 13/01/2022 07:35

I enjoyed listening to Maybe You Should Talk to Someone by Lori Gottlieb and Where The Crawdads Sing by Delia Owens.

UnexpectedItemInShaggingArea · 13/01/2022 07:37

Also, Michelle Obama - Becoming

Maggiesgirl · 13/01/2022 07:57

The Outlander Series. Davina Porter is such a brilliant narrator, plus the books are really long.

I really enjoyed How Not To Be A Boy by Robert Webb

Wild by Cheryl Strayed was amazing also. Loved that one.

And agree Michelle Obama’s Becoming was great.

I am beyond fussy about narration, don't accept abridged versions.

Romulus, My Father written and read by Raymond Gaita.

The Book of Ebenezer Le Page by GB Edwards, narrated by Roy Dotrice. Dotrice is a Guernseyman so does it proper

Cloudstreet by Tim Winton, narrated by Peter Hosking

David Copperfield by Charles Dickens, narrated by Martin Jarvis

Mister Pip by Lloyd Jones, narrated by Jennifer Velutic (beware other versions)

Paper Boy by Christopher Fowler read by Gordon Griffin

Briefs Encountered, written and read by Julian Clary

Tinker, Tailor, Soldier, Spy and Smiley's People written by John Le Carre and read by Michael Jayston

Great Expectations by Charles Dickens, read by Anton Lesser.
