I want to get my 16yo DD an interesting book, she loves her Psychology course, she upped her predicted grade from B to A* in half term. I would like a Christmas present for her, a book related to Psychology but not a boring one. Not really sure what I am looking for! Please recommend anything.

There's one called something like The Man Who Mistook His Wife For A Hat - it's a classic of the genre - might be worth a try? I did A Level Psychology a million years ago and I remember it was mentioned by my tutor.

Counselling for toads, Tuesdays with Morrie, Asylums by Patrick McGrath is a psychology classic. Look at the author Oliver Saks. He's a neurologist whose books are fabulous. He has written a few.

Also Man's Search For Meaning by Viktor Frankle (sp).

These are all good basic classics that the foundations of current theory.

When I did my psy degree I would have loved the following as gifts.

Definitely any of Oliver Sacks' books. One mentioned above 'The Man who mistook his wife for a hat' is a classic.

I used to love a book called 'The man who tasted shapes' about Synaesthesia

You could try some vintage book stores for some early prints of psychology books by e.g Freud. I got some from my parents and they are much treasured 20 years later.

Otherwise look for any books on e.g sleep, memory etc. Derren Browns books are fascinating on mentalism but avoid pop psychology like dream interpretation etc.

If the Child is already doing a level psy one would assume she already has the text book though? It's a staple for Alevel
