Easy reads

I have a newborn baby so am obviously awake a lot at night at the moment. I’d like to have something good to read so I don’t spend all night scrolling Facebook/mumsnet or buying random crap on Amazon.

Please can you recommend anything that’s a good read but not too heavy. My brain is a bit frazzled so can’t manage anything even remotely challenging. Don’t mind what genre.

Thanks!

I'm listening to 56 days by Catherine Ryan Howard. Lots of repetition as it's told from the perspective of two characters plus a third on a separate timeline. Enjoying it so far.

Thanks @Pucarbuile I’ll check it out

I have recently enjoyed Daisy Jones and the Six by Taylor Jenkins Reid. It's about a 1970's rock band and I found it thought provoking but not challenging. You might also like to try Old Baggage by Lissa Evans. It's set in 1920's London and is very funny and poignant with strong characters.

You might find non fiction easier as you don’t need to worry about keeping track of a plot. How about Bill Bryson’s travel books?

The Lido - R Lupin , is a nice gentle read.

Maeve Binchley and Lucinda Riley books also come to mind.

I read Jill Mansell when I want something easy, light, fluffy and a guaranteed happy ending. Can get a bit predictable and silly but overall just easy on a stressed out busy brain.

The Midnight Library

Very easy read and not too long. Current and has done very well in charts.

PanicBuyingSprouts · 25/10/2021 18:48

I was just going to say the Midnight Library as well Smile

Jenny Eclair’s short stories about women. It’s called Listening in.
They are just about the right length to draw you in, but not so long you forget what’s happening if you have to keep putting the book down.

I find Jane Fallon’s books reliably easy and entertaining. Family drama, well written but not challenging.

Ridingthegravytrain · 29/10/2021 07:19

Any of Stephen Clarke’s year in the merde books. Amusing fluff

junebirthdaygirl · 29/10/2021 07:20

Apples never fall by Leane Moriarty is easy reading but gripping enough to hold you.
Also any of Marion Keyes books are easy but entertaining reading.

IbizaToTheNorfolkBroads · 29/10/2021 07:22

The “All Creatures Great and Small” books.

DwangelaForever · 29/10/2021 07:25

All of Jane Fallon's books are excellent. I would recommend Milly Johnson and Lucy Diamond too!!

I have recently read two of Lyndsey Kelk's books and they were very easy reads
