Robert Goddard?

He suddenly popped into my head for reasons I cannot explain! I’d forgotten how much I liked his books - I have fond memories of reading one of them when up feeding Ds in the night. He’s 28 now 😮 (ds that is, not Robert Goddard!).

Are there similar authors anyone can recommend please?

I love Robert Goddard, he’s one of my favourite authors.

I’m not sure I would des robe them as similar but you could try:

Nicci French
Cara Hunter
C J Sansom
Harlan Coben
Linwood Barclay

You have just named everyone I would have suggested! HUGE Robert Goddard fan - also quite like Clare Francis.

Belinda Bauer and Kate Atkinson’s Jackson Brodie books are also highly recommended.

I haven’t heard of Clare Francis, I’ll look her up! Thanks. Nice to find some other Robert Goddard fans, he’s underrated in my opinion.

I love Robert Goddard.

A horse ( a very large horse ) stood on my foot which put me in hospital for 3 days. It was while I was lying there, slightly monged-out from the anesthetic that the nice man with the book trolley offered me "Sight Unseen". I read it cover to cover and demanded more Robert Goddard, which my husband duly obilged along with a punnet of grapes ( had to be done apparently ) a bunch of supermarket flowers and a get-well-soon card from Benson, my horse.

Robert is now my go-to-man when the cold and damp closes-in and my foot starts to ache.

I love Tim Weavers books.

I love Robert Goddard too. Caught in the Light is my favourite one. I've read a few of Peter James too. Some of them are good if more than a bit far fetched.

ChessieFL · 14/10/2021 19:00

That’s my favourite too Viviennemary. It’s so clever.

Meduse · 18/10/2021 19:02

Thank you for this! I used to love his books and have just found “Caught in the light “ to read again

Footle · 23/10/2021 07:41

I haven't read Goddard for many years but I'm reading Caught in the Light now too - thanks.

Footle · 25/10/2021 16:46

Well that was pants.

I always enjoy reading them, not least because I know many of his locations, and then reproach myself for getting caught up in the stories. His plotting is so intricate, and then at the end it's all so improbable that it's laughable.

I like Douglas Kennedy for similar reasons, and dislike them for the same reasons. Real life is much more untidy.

I opened this thread because I like Robert Goddard. Then I realised it was a thread I started! Losing it already!

Thank you for the replies, off to peruse them!

Past Caring was the one I read all those years ago. I think I’ll have a re-read.

Also like Robert Goddard. Borrowed Time is my favourite. Great plotting and characters. Every book is different.

Ian Pears,

also Tim Pears (I don't think they are related!)
