I'm looking for recommendations for recent sci-fi futuristic cyborg-y reads. I mainly like films such as Blade Runner etc, but would like to try out some contemporary books. I liked Klara and the Sun, but happy to read less well-written, more plot-driven stories.

You might like the Murderbot series by Martha Wells, which is apparently very popular. I don't think the subsequent books as are much fun as the first one (All Systems Red), but you might give her a try.

The premise is that a company provides cyborgs intended for security, incorporating very specific programming governing their actions. This particular cyborg, which calls itself Murderbot, has disabled the programming, and although still working security really would prefer to sit around watching soap operas.

Ooo, thank you @MsAmerica

Second the Murderbot recommendation - great books!

The Catnet books by Naomi Kritzer are about an AI rather than a cyborg, but they are entertaining. They are YA books. This is the short story that started the series, if you want to try it out:

Adrian Tchaikovsky has written two books about intelligent cyborg animals - Dogs of War and Bear Head. I’ve only read Dogs of War, but it was very good.

Surprised PP haven’t mentioned anything by William Gibson - the man who coined the term “cyberspace.” I loved his Burnt Chrome Series of novels and I’m reading his latest, Agency, now.

And hen there’s Philip K Dick. Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep -classic. (Bladerunner is the film adaptation)

Brilliant, I'm so glad I asked this question. Lots of books to follow. Thanks for the recommendations!

Another vote for Adrian Tchaikovsky “The Dogs of War” - more genetic engineering, but a hugely impressive and powerful novel
