Very different setting from her Wayfarers novels, but what a lovely novel. It felt like the literary equivalent of being offered a perfectly-made cup of tea and a peaceful place to sit.

I was disappointed in this, tbh, having read the Wayfarer series. I thought it was slight and felt more like a prologue to a novel than a novel.

Is it sad? I’m a bit hesitant about Becky Chambers because I found Spaceborn Few such a sad book compared to the fun of Small Angry Planet, and I’m not in the mood for sad.

No, it isn't sad at all. More uplifting.

No, not sad. Confused drifter monk meets forest-born robot for a meeting of minds. I think the Wayfarer book it most resembles is the one (forget which title) where an asteroid crash lands a bunch of different species on the same refuelling station for a few days and they all learn to understand one another.

It is more of a novella really. If a reader is expecting a full-length novel, I can see how they might feel disappointed.

Thank you both. I quite liked that one (the galaxy and the ground within) so I’ll give this a go :)
