Please recommend me something similar. I laughed out loud more than I can remember..

I've read some of her other books but didn't enjoy them as much.

So for a similar, easy reading not very believable enjoyable escapism I recommend:

Marian Keyes
Lucy Diamond
Jenny Colgan
Mhari McFarlane
Sophie Ranauld
Beth O'Leary
Katie Fforde (although hers are all basically the same story with differently named characters and different locations)

Takingabreakagain · 27/07/2021 14:27

Jenny Colgan I think is a similar writer, the Beach Street Bakery series or the little shop of happy ever after (and sequels) were good

elkiedee · 27/07/2021 15:30

I have a lot of catching up to do on Jenny Colgan - I've bought a lot of her recent books on Kindle but not read them yet. Of her earlier work one I particularly enjoyed was Talking to Addison, though I think it's about being young and a flatsharer.

I really like Rowan Coleman but she's less of a comic writer.

Just remembered another light but clever and funny book that I enjoyed: picked it up for £3 in Tesco or something a few years ago and was very pleasantly surprised. It was Holly’s Inbox by Holly Denham. The style put me in mind of Sophie Kinsella and the heroine is very relatable, like Becky.

I think that there might even be a sequel. It emerged that Holly Denham was the nom de plume of a man who owned a city temp agency. Kudos to him for writing an exemplary chick lit novel.

purpleme12 · 07/08/2021 00:55

I think Becky is my favourite book character
She's the person I wish I was

Roonilwazlib1 · 07/08/2021 00:58

@Dippydinosaurus

The I Heart series of books were great. I like easy to read escapism books like Mhari McFarlane, Sophie Ranauld etc
Oh I forgot about these books! I used to love them! I particularly remember the New York and Paris ones. And maybe an LA one!?
IWishIWasABaller · 07/08/2021 01:02

Catherine alliot definitely plus early Marian Keyes

IWishIWasABaller · 07/08/2021 01:03

Yes to Fiona walker too Grin

Rainbowqueeen · 07/08/2021 01:10

Agree with all the above. Also Liane moriarty

LBirch02 · 12/08/2021 16:42

I’ve only read the first one

Badgercity · 12/08/2021 16:47

Definitely read Can You Keep a Secret, Remember Me? and Undomestic Goddess from Sophie Kinsella. Undomestic Goddess is a great summer read.

LBirch02 · 12/08/2021 16:51

Liane Moriarty as has been said upthread was brilliant

MiddleParking · 12/08/2021 17:08

Tess Stimson is good - especially The Adultery Club. Also, Pear Shaped by Stella Newman is a fantastic read in that genre and I liked Leftovers by her too. Plus The Dating Detox (much better than the title) and A Girl Like You by Gemma Burgess.

Roselilly36 · 12/08/2021 17:12

My favourite books are by Milly Johnson, I am currently ready my one true North.

ReadingIsFundamental · 12/08/2021 22:54

I like lots of the authors recommended above, but would also suggest the Aisling series by Sarah Breen and Emer McLysaght. Oh My God, What a Complete Aisling is the first in the series - they are very funny but deal with some serious topics too and Aisling is a brilliant heroine.

AlfieandAnnieRose · 16/08/2021 07:39

I love the books by Sophia Money-Coutts, just finished ‘the wish list’. Her books are also light, funny and easy to read with a bit of romance.

shiningcuckoo · 20/08/2021 20:29

It's more than 20 years old now, but I've read The Temp by Serena Mackesy many times. It's a great comfort read and is less outlandish than the shopaholic books.

PaddingtonsHat · 20/08/2021 20:35

Jill Mansell
Recently discovered Jo Thomas accidentally and loving the European sun drenched settings.
Lucy Dillon books

For something a bit (but not much) grittier Kerri Fisher

moralcompass · 21/08/2021 14:50

Thanks for all these! Look forward to going through them

Areyouboredyet · 21/08/2021 14:53

Twenties girl - also Sophie Kinsella had me in stitches. I loved it so much I read it a few times and laughed every time. Jill Mansell books are really good too.

Beeleave · 21/08/2021 16:04

I was coming on to suggest the Aisling books by emer Mclysaght too... really funny and relatable with great characters. I am hoping they do another one

ReadingIsFundamental · 23/08/2021 21:27

@Beeleave I follow the authors on insta and they’ve recently announced the release date for the 4th Aisling book - I think it’s October some time (I assume it will be released in the U.K. at the same time as Ireland but don’t know.)

The title is Aisling in the City and apparently she heads to NY. I’m really looking forward to it, I think Aisling is a fantastic character.

@shiningcuckoo I read the Temp years and years ago & really liked it then discovered the author turned to crime novels under the name Alex Marwood - the ones I’ve read by her were really good.

bubblebubblebubbletrouble · 23/08/2021 21:35

In addition to many of the authors already mentioned - particularly Jane Fallon & Marian Keyes have a look at Louise Bagshawe, and her sister Tilly Bagshawe and Tamsina Perry. Not as down to earth maybe as Becky Bloomwood, but fantastic escapism/how the other half live etc.

Beeleave · 23/08/2021 21:58

@ReadingIsFundamental thank you for that! I will follow them. I had a tricky spell and these books really helped distract me, I will look forward to the next one

Kyliealwayshadthebestdisco · 08/09/2021 00:47

Louise Pentland’s books starting Robyn Wilde. Also the Why Mummy Drinks series!
