Now what? If I Loved Crawdads, Eleanor Oliphant, Lisa Jewel, Maggie O’Farrell

…Kite Runner, Thousand Splendid Suns Barbara Kingsolver.

I also love psychological thrillers/page turners but not predictable police detective sagas. I liked Lullaby and Room. But the latter was on the edge of being too disturbing.

What else would I like, please? Need holiday suggestions!

Mrs Benson’s Beetle - Rachel Joyce
The signature of all things - ElizabethGilbert
The Penelopiad - Margaret Atwood
Educated - Tara Westover
I loved the books/writers you mentioned and these have been my recent favourites

Oh and anything by Sarah Moss and Grace McCleen - astoundingly good

PlumpCushion · 24/07/2021 11:21

@inthekitchensink thanks so much! I’ll have a good look at those. I do love it when I find a ‘new’ author 😊

Hope you find something you love! Laura Purcell is another writer I’d buy without reading the blurb first, she’s so good I’d buy her shopping list

Following for suggestions. I have heard good things about Clare Macintosh and have I See You on order from the library.

stressbucket1 · 24/07/2021 11:45

I've enjoyed the beekeeper of aleppo and the doll factory recently.

gailaldwin · 24/07/2021 11:59

Oh yes, I've enjoyed books Tara Westover and Barbara Kingsolver, but how about trying something completely different. This Much Huxley Knows has an adorable seven-year-old narrator who shines a light on contemporary issues such as isolation, friendship and what it means to trust. It's great seeing the world through the eyes of a child and chuckling at his funny way with language.

Small Pleasures by Clare Chambers is v good and quite new (I think).

PlumpCushion · 24/07/2021 12:47

I've just discovered Liz Moore
I've read Heft and The unseen world and would recommend them both
Maggie O'Farrell and Barbara Kingsolver were my favourite authors but Liz Moore is now a close contender
