Can anyone help me find this book?

Hi, I read an article (possibly in the Independent) within the last week about a novel or memoir written by a woman. After WW2 she and some friends had moved into a large shared house in the countryside, a bit like a commune. I think there were 3 or 4 couples. It sounded really interesting, not sure if it was her memoirs or a novel based on her experiences. Presumably published many years ago. I'm sorry, I don't have more info than that as I was planning to save the article so I could look the book up but failed to do so.

Is anyone able to point me in the right direction? Thanks!

@EmmaGrundyForPM might this be A House in the Country by Ruth Adam? She and her husband moved to a lovely old house (location never specified, but it was near Harpenden in Herts) with a group of their arty friends. Her husband worked for the BBC and she was the SAHM, effectively, who did a lot of the hard work of keeping the household going. It's a lightly-fictionalised account of what actually happened.

I'm a bit of a Ruth Adam fan and loved this book. It's published by Furrowed Middlebrow and you can get it as an ebook or in print.

@Terpsichore I'm so sorry, I didn't come back to thank you, this is absolutely the book I was reading about. Thanks so much!

Here's a post from a book blogger friend who I know from other book discussion websites. I'm keen to read this one too, which I think is a memoir. She also wrote a novel reprinted by Virago in the late 70s or early 80s, I'm Not Complaining, possibly drawing on personal experiences, as it's about a teacher, and a history of 20th century women's lives and changes - up to 1975 when it was published (Ruth Adam died. A Woman's Place hss been reprinted by Persephone and it's still in print but you might need to look online or get it by mail order unless you live in or very near Bath - as they've relocated from central London a couple of months ago.
