Anyone read The Windsor Knot: The Queen investigates a murder

Apologies if this has been posted about previously - I did an advanced search but am on the phone so can’t sort by date and am just getting lots of posts about school ties.

Just wondered if anyone has read The Windsor Knot by JK Bennett? I’ve literally just finished it and absolutely loved it and, as I’ve bought a copy for DMIL for her birthday and she’s usually the person I’d natter to about it, I don’t have anyone to chat to about it.

It came up in my Amazon recommendations because I’d previously bought (although ironically didn’t enjoy) The Thursday Murder Club. It basically sees a 90-year-old Queen Elizabeth solving a murder that happens at Windsor Castle. The Kindle edition was only 99p which tempted me to get it alongside the paperback for raving monarchist MIL but I enjoyed it so much. Lots of Royal and contemporary references, great characters and whimsically fun.

Sounds like fun.

In the U.S. there were Obama/Biden mysteries, starting with Hope Never Dies, which I gave as gifts.

This is clearly a whole genre of mystery books I know nothing about! I might have to get this one too. Thanks for the recommendation!

I've read it, OP! I thought it was brilliant. There's a follow-up coming out later this year.

After several days of not looking on Mumsnet books, I thought I'd just pop in last evening, and see what you've cost me : £8.99 for a copy of The Windsor Knot! It was in my local book shop. I did google it yesterday and it was said to be written with affection. I've got two books on the go at the moment so I won't read it immediately, but I looked at the first two pages and I could see a bit of the affection.

AdaThorne · 05/07/2021 20:03

Oh I hope you enjoy it @upinaballoon. It definitely felt affectionate, I loved the details in it - it felt like there was some serious research gone into the casual comments about life in the castle. I also love the fact that even arguably one of the most powerful women in the world becomes underestimated and invisible once she reaches a certain age - and harnesses that power to fight crime.

@AlTempleton I’m so glad they’re doing more! It really was one of the most original, fun and memorable things I’ve read for ages.

Thanks to this thread I've just picked up a copy along with my shopping. £4.50 in Sainsbury's - sounds like a nice fun read!

Standrewsschool · 14/07/2021 21:22

Oops, The Windsor knot may have fallen into my kindle basket.

upinaballoon · 14/07/2021 21:43

I started reading it today and I am not spoiling anything if I write "All they see is a little old lady in a hat." He grinned........................

Just finished it. Easy reading but not sure I'd rush to buy the next in the series to be honest

I've just ordered a copy for my DMum - she likes a nice comforting murder

I've just ordered it for my mum, too!

Can't find it on Kindle. Any hints?

ChessieFL · 12/08/2021 15:21

It’s definitely on kindle. It’s by SJ Bennett though not JK Bennett as stated in the OP.

upinaballoon · 28/09/2021 20:32

I think the second book is set in Buckingham Palace, so if there's a third I hope it will be set at Balmoral, several years ago, with a cameo appearance from a servant sighing over a mustard stain on the canvas of a tent which went to the barbecue.
