I am looking for recommendations for a good, middle ground, popular books podcast. Not too literary and high brow, but not trashy coffee shop by the sea or mass produced he's behind you thrillers either.

Anyone listen to any good ones?

Following for ideas.

Literary Friction. I guess it's quite high brow but it is v good. Sentimental Garbage is fun.

I'm also following for ideas.

Posted too soon- following for ideas, my only suggestion is 'a good read' on BBC sounds, though it very much depends on who the guests are.

Backlisted is good. I've listened to them in the past, but not recently. Assume it's still being made.

Graham Norton has been advertising his new podcast for Audible, free for members only, which sounds like it could be quite good.

Sentimental Garbage focuses on mostly good quality women's fiction - e.g. Nancy Mitford, Marion Keyes, Mary Wesley, Curtis Sittenfeld, with some more at the chick-lit end of the spectrum mixed in.

I follow the BBC ones - A Good Read, and Book Club with James Naughtie (which I think is the better)

Also happy to get new ideas!

I like A Good Read too, and Strong Sense of Place, particularly enjoyed the Scotland and Chicago episodes.

What page are you on. Two young women, mostly new releases. Weekly, UK, enthusiastic reader/writers.

I really like A Good Read, where the presenter and two invited guests discuss a favourite book suggested by each, having all three read it in advance of the show.

The same presenter, Harriet Gilbert, also hosts the monthly World Book Club which takes the form of an interview with an author based on questions sent in by the audience. You are then told what the following book of the month is so that you can read it in advance/contribute questions if you like.

All this sounds a bit dry but HG is so intelligent, and funny sometimes, with generally interesting authors and guests, that these are really engaging podcasts. Loads available to look back through to find episodes which appeal.

Backlisted definitely. So much interesting stuff about books and authors I've never heard of or forgotten
