As the title says. Anyone knows of a website with good selection of second hand books?

Probably not the answer you’re looking for but I find Amazon third party sellers by far the most useful. I normally pick either charities or Music Magpie and I’ve always got what I ordered at a reasonable price.

I buy a lot on ebay

worldofbooks.com is pretty good and does free postage, although sometimes the prices are rather wacky - e.g. a children's picture book up for £34.00, when there are other versions of the same book available on the same site for £4.50!

Abe books

SkankingMopoke · 18/03/2021 12:10

I use Ebay, although the seller is often Music Magpie, World of Books or similar.

ExcusesAndAccusations · 18/03/2021 12:12

Yes World of Books is one of the sellers I use quite a lot on Amazon as well - they’re reliable.

Thank you very much!

Biblio.com is an umbrella for lots if second-hand booksellers. It doesn't seem to suffer the algorithms which inflate prices on Abebooks.

DramaAlpaca · 18/03/2021 23:35

Another vote for Abe Books. They are, I believe, owned by Amazon which might bother some people.

BunnyRuddington · 19/03/2021 09:39

Abe was recommended by one of our local librarians. It's great although the prices seem to be set by an algorithm so occasionally sone of the books can be over £100.

Bookswap.co.uk is really good. You can send your unwanted books to other people (you print off a postage paid label) and then you get a swapping point so you can order a book from someone else for about £3. Some really good bargains! You get a free swapping point when you sign up too :)

I usually go through Abe, but if the seller has its own website, it can be cheaper to buy directly, so use Abe to search, and their own website to buy. Same for Biblio (which has a lot of the same sellers as Abe.)

I also like Abe because they list with postage included, so the total cost. You can see the vosts broken down as well. Their search is good, as well.
