I saw a few comments on the post about a book list on chat, from posters saying they'd never read certain books because they were an adult/too old for them when they were released.
I read a lot of books that are apparently children's or YA, I just read what interests me. The last book I read was Back Home by Michelle Magorian, because I really enjoyed Goodnight Mr Tom as a child (and adult) and that one passed me by. Often I re-read books I enjoyed from my childhood. I read most of my tween and teen's books once they've finished them. I really enjoy reading books with my younger children too, both classics and modern, so I regularly read a full range of books from picture books, primary age books, tween, teen to adult books. Some of the best written books are written off by adults as just for children, just because the protagonist is a child or teen, and it's just something I don't understand.
There seems to be some embarrassment from adults who admit to reading YA. Of course some are trashy, but that is the same, in fact often even more so in my experience with adult books, just because a main character is a child or teen, why do people assume the writing lacks depth or serious themes?
