Thought I’d kick start the new thread for this year.

I’m starting with Outlander by Diana Gabalon and reading Anna Karenina Tolstoy one chapter a day, so expect to finish September sometime - I’m on chapter 4.

I’ve started with My Name Is Monster... it’s about a post apocalyptic world and the only female survivor...

MercedesDeMonteChristo · 01/01/2021 10:38

@babybythesea I read Once, by Morris Gleitzman last year which I picked up from DS2’s shelf and it was stunning.

I would love to join please! Got some great recommendations from the 50 book thread last year but feel slightly overwhelmed at how much they read so 26 books is much more my pace. Will still be a challenge to hit 26 but will give it a good go. Currently half way through The Guest List, by Lucy Foley

missyB1 · 01/01/2021 12:06

Well I can absolutely recommend The Island I can hardly put it down!

Angliski · 01/01/2021 12:16

Finished in bath! Onto talking to strangers, Malcolm Gladwell. Also on the list are portnoys complaint and girl, woman, other. I shall add the island now too.

IJumpedAboardAPirateShip · 01/01/2021 13:15

Yay hello all - loved this thread last year

Was hoping to finish my book today but am too hungover

DesdamonasHandkerchief · 01/01/2021 13:38

Happy New Year 26 bookers 🥳 I always lurk on here for recommendations! Just a word of warning about that Top 30 books on Channel 5 baby, it was Channel 5 who choose the 30 titles then asked people to put them in order, I think there's some odd choices Hmm

Superspecs · 01/01/2021 15:17

Hello! Please may I join you? I would love to read a bit more than I do now but could never make 50! I've started the new year with Queenie by Candice Carty-Williams. So far so good!

BaconAndAvocado · 01/01/2021 16:10

So glad this thread is getting busier. I thought I was in a tiny minority that couldn’t manage 50 books a year!

Aiming to finish my first book A Man Called Ove in the next couple of days.

Then I’m going to start on my Christmas gift pile with The Midnight Library

I loved How to Stop Time so have high expectations.

Happy reading everyone ☺️

Averyhungrycaterpillar · 01/01/2021 16:13

I will have finished my first book by this evening - then I'm onto The Guest List too. Will add The Island to the list too

Tinkhasflown · 01/01/2021 16:29

Great to see you all again and that this thread is going for another year. I'm half way through What Alice Forgot by Liane Moriarty. I'm enjoying it so far. I'm also reading Dear Leader about the escape from North Korea, but I'm finding it a real drag, hence I'm reading other books in between. It's definitely the reason I didn't quite make my 40 book target of 2020, but hey ho.

Looking forward to more recommendations from this thread, although I have a LOT of unread books on my Kindle Blush.

MercedesDeMonteChristo · 01/01/2021 16:30

I’m clearly going to be way behind by somehow picking two 800 pagers to start with.

Welcome one and all. To reiterate, there are no rules to speak of, count what you like (audio, books to DC etc) and post a brief review when done.

Hello 👋🏼

Please may I join. I need to step away from the news and social media and step into my books!

Starting with The Silent Patient by Alex Michaelides

Looking forward to reading your reviews

princessspotify · 01/01/2021 17:44

Happy New Year to allGlitterball
I'm ready for the challenge again.
I've just started Away with the penguins.
I was given a book voucher for xmas so will be checking here for recommendations Grin

60sPony · 01/01/2021 19:24

Another here to join. I always aim for at least one book a month but normally manage two to three so hope to hit 20 or so in 2021.

I’m going to kick off the year with The Spy and The Traitor by Ben MacIntyre 🕵️‍♂️

Puddock1 · 01/01/2021 19:50

Happy New Year to you all! I'd like to join please and have started with "We Begin At the End" by Chris Whitaker. Really enjoying it so far.
Excited to hear all of your recommendations 😊

Wildernesstips · 01/01/2021 20:44

Hi, I’m joining this year too. Usually read about 30 a year but 2020 I read under 19 - just couldn’t concentrate. Also, I normally have an audiobook and a reading book on the go, so will be counting both.

Already started well by reading when I woke rather than reaching for my tablet!

DonEmmanuelsDingleberries · 01/01/2021 22:23

I'm starting the year with The Hills Is Lonely by Lillian Beckwith.

It's the first in a series about a woman who moves to a remote Hebridian island to convalesce following an illness, and the people she meets there. Enjoying it so far.

Horriblyjealous · 01/01/2021 22:54

Can I join please? Currently reading Reflection by Diane Chamberlain.

Virginvodkaandcoke · 01/01/2021 23:05

Hello all. I used to be a big reader as a child but I don't ever seem to find time for it anymore. I'm hoping to change that this year. I'm starting with Hercule Poirot's Christmas, which I'm hoping to read quickly, before I take my decorations down. Then I'm hoping to be inspired by something I've seen here for my next read.

MoChridhe · 01/01/2021 23:08

OP, I have read all the Outlander books numerous times. Now reading Clanlands by Sam heughan. Hoping book 9 of Outlander will be out this year.

Chickoletta · 01/01/2021 23:25

Hi all,
I’d love to rejoin this year please - I started the 25 book thread 2 years ago having fallen hopelessly behind in the 50 book group! I started well last year but had a pretty terrible year and stopped recording my reading. I do love hearing other people’s recommendations though and keeping track of my own reads.
I usually have one ‘actual’ book on the go, currently Hamnet, which is amazing, an audiobook, Miss Benson’s Beetle - so so, and a book I’m reading to DD - the wonderful Comet in Moominland at present.

I really loved The Thursday Murder Club recently - think he’s bringing out the sequel soon.

SukiPutTheEarlGreyOn · 02/01/2021 00:10

Would also love to join - failed the 50 books but 26 sounds a much more doable pace. After a weird few months when it seemed impossible to concentrate on a book long enough to finish it, I’ve been delighted to suddenly find my reading mojo has returned thanks to Hamnet which, as Chickoletta says, is an amazing novel; humane and enthralling.

In non-fiction both Pandora’s Jar and Fifty Words for Snow are proving fascinating reads with bite-sized chapters that are great to dip into. The authors wear their (considerable) learning lightly yet I always come away clutching a new and interesting nugget of information (realise that now sounds like a book loving squirrel is trying to infiltrate the group).

1sttimemumtobe2021 · 02/01/2021 09:36

I would like to join too. I barely read last year but love it when I do. I find I need to read a book quite quickly in order to get into it... if it's sat staring at me or will take a month to read I just don't do it.

I was bought Three Women by Lisa Taddeo for my birthday last year so have started on that. It's a bit heavy going. Effectively non-fiction turned into fiction (centres around three women's stories) and the theme is sexual abuse. After this I'm going to go into something non-fiction - I've started the New Year on a difficult read!

BaconAndAvocado · 02/01/2021 09:52

Ooh glad Hamnett is going down so well. I got it for Christmas and can’t wait to read it.
