I love reading. Always have. Really want something I can get totally lost in. Authors I like are - Maggie O'Farrell, Kate Atkinson, Charity Norman, Louise Candlish, Lisa Jewell (although didn't rate her last book) Erin Kelley, David Nicholls.
However I've been reading quite a few thrillers lately and want something a bit different.
TIA

If still an active thread, I would recommend Barbara Kingsolver and Donna Tartt.

Yy to previous post : Barbara Kingsolver's Poisonwood Bible had me transported to Africa. It's a planned reread.

Also Donna Tarrt's Secret History. The Little Friend didn't do it for me though.

I second The Guernsey Potato Peel and Literary Society
Also Britt Marie was Here was very good.

Springfern · 22/01/2021 22:46

Second The Red Tent.

Also, The Poisenwood Bible. Anything by Curtis Sittenfeld

I like those authors you mention OP and would recommend all of Ann Patchett's books, have recently read "The Dutch House" and then reread all her other books, and I have a huge pile of unread books so don't have time to do that!

I have just finished The Fear, by Mark Cunnington. It's a brilliant and emotional book, based on his real experiences with scary things happening to different family members. Definitely recommend it and was a great little Amazon discovery.

Piransi
by Susannah Clark.

I can't even begin to describe it, but it's amazing.

The book of lost things by John Connelly is one of my all time favourites. It’s so lovely and bittersweet and joyful and sad all at once.

CriticalWoman · 05/02/2021 17:40

I like similar authors to yours OP and have recently discovered Tracey Chevalier. Her books are historical but not in a crinolines and butlers Downton style.
You might also enjoy The, Siege by Helen Dunmore.

CriticalWoman · 05/02/2021 22:11

Also, anything by Sarah Waters

dementedma · 05/02/2021 22:12

Agree The Night Circus
Also enjoyed Appletree Yard

jennymac · 05/02/2021 23:24

OP love most of the authors you mentioned and my recommendations are Donal Ryan and Jess Kidd.

Anything by Sarah Addison Allen. Utterly magical.
Also Jodi Taylor’s St Mary’s Chronicles. Enjoyable & escapist.
