I keep reading books recommended and they just don’t seem to pack the punch anymore...

Please can you give me your ultimate book, with the plot twist you never seen coming...

I may have read it but hopefully I haven’t and will gather a huge big library of exciting books to read Halo

Wilkie Collins the Woman in White/the Moonstone

I knew there would be a plot twist, but I didn't guess it correctly, when I read The Silent Patient. I think being told beforehand that there is going to be a plot twist, really ruins the plot twist, but you know.

I also loved Before I Go To Sleep and Gone Girl, but expect you've read those.

Bupkiss · 14/12/2020 21:22

Legend of a suicide by David Vann.

The twist comes like a punch in the stomach.

MercedesDeMonteChristo · 17/12/2020 18:56

Gentlemen and Players.

OnceUponAMidnightBeery · 17/12/2020 19:00

Agatha Christie.

Especially The Murder of Roger Ackroyd, And Then There Were None (great audiobook of this on YouTube btw, it is 6hrs long though!) and Murder on the Orient Express.

I’m guessing you’ve read them all though, but I’ve not found any more recent books that catch me quite so unawares!

Europilgrim · 17/12/2020 22:06

I've read quite a few of these and can't remember the plot twist! Confused I am always surprised, even when I reread, as I have a terrible memory.

freezedriedromance · 17/12/2020 22:08

Fingersmith!
Absolutely great twist.

Twinpeaksdancingman · 19/12/2020 11:12

Thanks, a few on here that I haven’t read yet Smile

I Let You Go by Clare Mackintosh

ThorFull · 19/12/2020 18:14

Oh yes, I enjoyed fingersmith.

The game of thrones books are so complex and full of constantly twisting plot lines. I’m thinking of going back for another read.

Lua · 19/12/2020 18:15

We were liars (E. Lockhart)

If you dont mind YA fiction....

CarlottaValdez · 19/12/2020 21:58

I’m thinking of ending things

It’s such a great book too, not just shocking or twisty for the sake of it.

Endless Night by Agatha Christie

milienhaus · 19/12/2020 22:17

Every Last One by Anna Quindlan

Never let me go

Hit me right in the gut

Also - we need to talk about Kevin x

cariadlet · 19/12/2020 23:46

Definitely Fingersmith. The twist literally took my breath away. I've never had such a physical reaction to a book.

Labobo · 20/12/2020 07:53

The Goldfinch

@CarlottaValdez - I didn't know it was a novel first. The film is extraordinary. I'd like to read it.

CarlottaValdez · 20/12/2020 08:34

It’s great! I’d seen the film before I read it and still thought it was fantastic.

Labobo · 20/12/2020 20:07

@cricketmum84 - agree on We Need To Talk About Kevin. I really didn't see that twixt coming at all (some people say it was obvious) I gasped in shock.

cricketmum84 · 20/12/2020 20:48

@Labobo I read it on holiday. Got to the end and sat up in shock staring at all these normal people milling around as if I hadn't gone through full on trauma 😂 no I never saw it coming either.

Galliano · 20/12/2020 20:59

We need to talk about Kevin was completely unexpected for me too.

Also Affinity by Sarah Waters - quite disappointed her later books don’t have such spectacular twists.

Wigeon · 20/12/2020 21:04

Fingersmith

We need to talk about Kevin

Totally didn’t see either plot twist coming. Gripping books both of them.

NotImpossible · 21/12/2020 09:24

Fingersmith for me too.

I'm going to look for some of the others mentioned here.
