I absolutely adored his earlier books, and The Little Drummer Girl and Smiley's People are contenders for my desert island read. They are not just great spy novels; they are wonderful books in their own right. Although I didn't think as much of his later work, I'm sad to hear he has passed away.

Anyone else a fan?

I am very sad to hear this.

I might need to reread some of his novels over Christmas. Not my favourites, which get regular airings, but perhaps A Perfect Spy, and The Looking Glass War.

RIP, lived to a good age. I remember Alec Guinness from many years ago in Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

It took me a while to get into his books but once I got his way of writing found them, at their best, brilliant. The Night Manager and The Constant Gardener are favourites but I still have a fair few yet to read. Tinker Tailor is in my to
read pile of the bookshelf and I'll look out for others recommended on this thread.
RIP.

Thoroughly recommend Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy.

The Little Drummer Girl takes up all his usual themes of loyalty and betrayal, and makes the spies acting a part idea very explicit, but he moves the setting into the Middle East. It also has a female protagonist, which is unusual for him. It is absolutely one of my favourite books.
